wiring help

Sat Sep 21, 2013 9:18 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hi!

I'm rebuilding a mc16, but really I'm transforming it to mc18/21, I got a pgm I cdi with their wiring loom, but isn't in the best state, I have a question, how many boxes uses pgm I?, because I have the pgm unit and two black box with "kv3" blablabla, that's its enought? o I need one more box?

one is the cdi, and the other two are the rc control valve(or ignition unit, I'm confused :S)?, right?

some pics

I get mc 18 ignition coil, mc 18 and 21 valve selenoid, pgm carbs, also I will keep only the mc 18 tacho and light, I don't use the speedo, any problem with the conecction?, o I must check all the wiring colors?

any help are welcome, sorry for my english gramma

regards from Chile,

Bruno

Heya

I think i have the same MC-18 set up as you the MC-18 mark 1, it just has 2 black boxes and a pgm1 box,
I have no idea why you need a total of 3 black boxes, i think by the PGM-3 (never seen a pgm-2 yet) they had it down to one box.

You may need the MC-18 carbs as i've been told the MC-16 doesn't have a throttle position sensor,
and there's a plug on the MC-18 loom for one, Not sure if the carbs with be a straight swap or not?
Let me know if you try. alway curious to see what's compatible.

I think the MC-18 and the MC-21 have a different valve solenoid set up, i think the MC-18 has one, the MC-21 has 2,
someone correct me if i'm wrong.

Not sure if the switch gear or flywheel/ignition pick ups are compatible either?

cheers

Robert

thanks for the answer, yes, I confused because this pic shows 3 black box + pgm unit:

I have mc 21 carbs Smile, mc 16 carbs have 28 mm venturi diametrer, mc18/21/28 is 32 mm, also I got insulater for that diametrer.

yes, I will use mc18 valve selenoid, because mc21 has two valve selenoid and isn't the same conector(2 vs 3 pins)

I have understood flywheel and pick up sensor are compatible, if are a r5k or later, probably I will have some problem

now I need to know how is the conector, if anyone can take some pics, and upload it, I really apreciated

thanks a lot!

Heya

I would be interested if the throttle position sensors are compatible between the MC - 18 and the MC - 21, they use different wiring colours.
So you may have to check everything lines up in the plugs, and also if they behave the same as each other as the throttle turns.
Maybe someone here already knows?

cheers
