Rear Brake Assembly Question

Mon Dec 30, 2013 6:45 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

Pulled the brakes apart for a refurb but got held up and now forget the assembly sequence?

According to page F-12-2 of the manual MC18 RK5 the part I can't reassemble is #8 a steel clip? see pic below.

Also I don't recall seeing of having item #6 on the same page, what appears to be another clip (maybe on on the wrong page).

I don't have an MC18 but on the 28 there is a clip like that, that the ends of the brake pads sit in (the end furthest from the pin). It fits into the caliper mount rather than the caliper body that holds the piston. The other clip sits on the main caliper body under the calipers (in your photo it would sit above the brake pads. Hope this helps.

by caliper mount, you mean the brake mounting part fastened to the swingarm? So i can't play around fitting it to the caliber body while sitting at my kitchen bench? Smile

I'm afraid I'm not familiar with the bike. When I say calliper mount I mean when you disassemble the calliper assembly, it's the half of the calliper assembly that doesn't have the piston. Sorry I can't be of more assistance.

The steel part is the anti rattle shim for the pads.
It clips into the caliper body, at the opposite end from the caliper pad pin. The ends of the pads sit on this shim.

Sorry gentleman I'm none the wiser in positioning this clip. Has anyone a photo with it in position or about to be positioned?
