Hi everyone, I have searched all over but as far as I can see there isn't a thread on this topic...
I have a couple of spare barrels lyiong around from an old seized engine. I'd like to get them cleaned up to see if they will be usable again.
There is piston material scraped on to the inner surface, what is the best way to clean this off? Can it be cleaned off without causing damage?
I also have some heads with detonation and another that has had a bit of ring or something leave a couple of dents. At what level do these become unusable or at least 'you should really just get new ones'?
I think the stuff you need is called muriatic acid, somebody will correct me if i'm wrong, sounds like muriatic anyway, if its not too bad I have cleaned them up before with a very fine wet and dry and some oil, something about 1200 grade, round and round, not up and down. _________________ Proud Father of , 05 ktm 400exc supermoto 2018 honda crf rx supermoto

Ahh awesome. Do you know where something like that would be sold?
Reckon I could potentially bring 2 barrels back to life...
Once you have cleaned with acid make sure you run a bottle brush hone through the cylinder with something like wd40 or get your local bike shop to do it.
