MC18 vs MC28 fuel filter compatibility.

Tue Feb 25, 2014 11:22 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hi mates,

I'm almost finished with the bike maintenance but i saw that the tank had some rust inside, so i decided to clean it pouring vinegar inside.
But when i took of the peakock i saw the filter mesh was a little clogged with sediments so it's time to change it.
I saw that the P/N 16952-KV3-005 F.Filter is NLA but i saw that MC28 F.Filter P/N 16952-KV3-951 is still available.
Will these be two part will be exchangeable?
Also I'm wondering if I 'll use a water based seal or a epoxi seal to protect the inner walls once the rust is gone. Any experiences will be very useful.
Thanks in advance.
Javi

Hi Javi,

I had a bit of goop around my filter too. It actually cleaned up nice with a little soapy water and an old toothbrush. I replaced the o-ring and all works fine.

If your looking to seal the tank, be aware that not all products can withstand ethanol based fuels. Even if its only 10%.. That may not be an issue in Europe, but it is in the US. Also, preparation is everything. If you run premix, most firms will not recommend their product because its difficult to assure an oil free surface which it needed for proper adhesion.

My bike uses the injectors. After giving the tank a good cleaning, i decided to delay sealing since its not too bad. Instead i added a cheap inline fuel filter for added comfort. When i do eventually get around to it i plan to use "Bill Hirsh tank sealer". I spoke to them a few months back and they told me they've had a can sealed with their product filled with pure ethanol for years with no degradation. You can probably get a similar product over there.

Good luck.

Thanks ericandchi for your advise,

I didn't know about the ethanol issues. Here in Spain the fuel has 6% to 10% of ethanol. So i'll purchase the one you mentioned.
I can't reuse the filter because it's not in good shape, it's seems like it got fully clogged and the plastic wall is deformed and it seems it's near to crack.
Regards,
Javier

Hi mates,

Just to inform if someone is insterested.
The petcok filter of the MC28 will not fit to a MC18, i saw a photo of the MC28 petcock and is not compatible.
I purchased the filter from the hurricane 250 that is almost the same. The tank should be ready this weekend it has been filled with vinegar for 4 days and i can smell it everywere in the house. Laughing
