mc16 bodywork

Sun Jun 14, 2015 11:33 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Gday, I just purchaced a running but cosmetically rough mc16, I was just wondering if the mc18 or mc21 body work will fit & what sort of dramas I'll have if it does?
Cheers in advance.

I've seen an MC16 with 21 bodywork cobbled together on it, and it did look a bit of a mess, to be honest.

An MC18 fairing will fit without too many dramas (MC16 and 1988 MC18 R2J lowers are virtually identical), although the MC16 has a cradle around the headlight, and holds the instrument cluster, so the top half will take some working with.

Easiest way to fit an MC18 seat is to use the MC18 subframe. It's very similar to the MC16 subframe, and wouldn't take too much to alter. Again, better off using 1988 R2J parts than 1989 R5K.

Remember, changing the bodywork could mean things like the handlebars fouling, different lighting will be needed, and wiring harness modifications.

Thanks Andy, I'm just exploring options at the moment, the bike I've bought is missing the front top bikini fairing & the small piece behind the pillion seat, the mc18 stuff looks like the go if I can't source what I need here in Aus. Bike arrives tomorrow so I'll have good look at what condition the rest of the stock panels are and go from there.
Thanks again.
