In an NSRMC21 is it easily possible to replace the dry clutch with a wet clutch. Anyone know how much that may cost? Are there any notable benefits to either? Thank You NSR World. Shinobi
They are effectively interchangeable... and replacing a dry clutch for a wet clutch will pretty much be free, as just about anyone with a wet clutch will almost certainly swap with you!* In fact, I have a wet transmission looking for a dry conversion, so as and when you are ready, I'd like first shout!
Can't imagine for the life of me why someone would want to get rid of a dry clutch. It's one of the defining features of a true GP race-rep, and makes the SE/SP models the most sought after bikes.
*For ease of conversion you would swap the entire transmission/clutch. _________________ Andy.

I often wonder what the dry clutch NSR is like. If it's anything like my Ducati dry clutch I'd hate it. I like the way you can slip a wet clutch - it feels right. Though I'd love to go to a dry clutch otherwise. Love the rattle, can run a hot looking open cover and you gain a horsepower! I'd do it, though I'd want to ride one first...
I always liked the wet clutch setup but have run dry on most of my own bikes.
HRC did a full kit for the wet clutch set up with a super tall first gear and F3 cluster. I think it was Christmas in Thailand that would only ever run a wet clutch on his F3's wasn't it Andy? _________________ If I have to take the carbs off once more...
My MC18 F-III motor is wet clutch... which is why I pounced on the new F-III 18T dry shaft on Yahoo! last year!
Only dry for me!! If I wanted a bike like everyone else I'd have bought a 600! Can't beat pulling up to the lights and holding the lever in, and seeing everyone looking around to work out what the noise is. Even better is pulling into a bike meet... you can draw the attention away from just about anything already there!
Remember the 5 of us turning up at Barnstaple Regatta Steve? Rolling into the car park on 5 SE/SP's really drew a crowd! Even the BMW guys were pouring all over them. _________________ Andy.

This question was purely hypothetical Gents and meant to learn more about the machine(NSR). I appreciate your responses. Andy, of course I would swap with you, but actually you have changed my mind. When I do finally buy my MC21 in a couple months I will be staying dry. Shinobi!!!
Just wait til you hear it, and see the interest it generates!
We took a couple of dry clutch 250's (luckily I didn't have to ride the RGV250!) to Daytona a number of years back... it was fantastic! _________________ Andy.

I'm new to this forum stuff (At 45 years old I'm new to forums) but I just bought a dry clutch set up that is supposed to fit my MC18. (Don't know if I have a I or II model. I was told by the ebay seller that I would need a new mainshaft, which I also purchased from him. He seemed to know a that there were only a dozen or so mainshafts left in stock as Honda has stopped producing parts for the MC18. I also needed a few gaskets and seals that I also purchased. I would think to go from a dry to wet clutch you will have to change the mainshaft as I had to. I haven't received the parts yet but this appears to be my winter project. If anyone is interested I'll post the procedure as I am a mechanic (almost 30 years) and a technical writer for Merc Benz, BMW and Volkswagen/Audi. Does anyone have a way to break down the VIN number so I can find out exactly what version of NSR I have? Thanks
I can't. Apparently you need to link to a hosting site and I am not set up for that. Any other way? I have an '89 with a 6 speed and I've been over 160kph so I don't think I have the rev limiter. Thanks for your help
Here is a Youtube link from the fellow who sold me the bike. He posted this link while he was selling it and it is still working. Please let me know if you can tell me anything about the bike. Thanks
