What's going on here??
MC21 swing arm assembled does not look right to me, (this is how I bought it).
The spindle looks like it pokes out to far and the locking nut is hanging on by about two threads:
This is my first NSR but I have had a few Hondas and it look squiffy to me, what do you think?
Here are the left and right sides of the arm between the frame so you can spot any missing bits:
(I have looked at the parts page and couldn't see anything…..I'd look in my dodgy manual but I sent it back )
It looks to me like you could be missing part# 10, or you may have fitted #9 and #10 on the wrong sides.
Usually, the adjuster (part# 11) just pokes out from the inside edge of the frame spar, and the castellated lock-nut screws on a good way. There should indeed be about 5mm or so less thread showing on the outside of the pivot bolt. _________________ Andy.

ooooohhhh yyyeeeaaahhhh, I see it now!
My insert in the bearing is flush with the swinging arm, (chain side) when it should stick out in a top hat style.
I think I'll turn something up and pop it in…..or find two washers!!!!
(I could buy a Honda part but that can wait for the 2016 restoration)
You will see one "top-hat" is longer than the other... if you have them both fitted (hard to see from the photo), then I expect they are in the wrong sides.
There should be no need for additional washers or spacers. _________________ Andy.

When I said 'thingy' I should have been more specific ..
The 'wotsit' for the engine….why do we need that???
I mean, I've worked on a lot of bikes and I've never seen a strap between the engine and the swinging arm before.
What could possibly be the issue Honda have found a solution for???
As far as i know it is to do with the engine mounts being rubber sleeved, I haven't got to that bit yet but it is to adjust the tension it is the engine hanger alignment link, there is a bolt just next to the drive sprocket the engine alignment bolt that has to be at the correct torque loading of 5 to 6 kg-m.
I've not seen anything like it before either, I suppose the alternative method would have been rigid mounting and all the vibration would then be transmitted to the frame, so this device probably as it is described aligns the engine up so there is no bias to one side or the other and give the correct position for the drive sprocket to the rear sprocket, correct positioning would minimise vibration transmission also.
Whether you can ditch it without getting problems I don't know but Honda don't usually waste their time devising things if there is no need.
The other guy's will no doubt give you chapter a verse.
I think you have a good theory but I've just had a beer so I've dreamed up another:
The engine is aligned in the frame correctly by the steel sleeves inside the iso-rubbers.
The rubbers soak up vibration but they would allow the engine to twist slightly against the chain pull on hard acceleration.
So Honda have popped in a little strap that stops the motor twisting left or right.
Notice how the strap can move up and down but not left and right when tightened up.
Hey, it could just be beer talk.
Anyway, let's crawl back to the swinging arm spacer issue…
Not yet DUX….
I've been looking at the parts scan closely and I think I have the correct number of parts the correct way around.
But for some reason there is about 4mm extra gap…..odd, one of the parts is wrong, (too short) or the previous nutter has filed one of them down.
It is very strange, why would anyone reduce the size, it does sound like you need a different spacer, was the s/arm intact when you got the bike or did you get a set of bits ? 4mm is quite a lot, I wonder if the centre bush/spindle is the correct length, p/n, 52101-kv3-831 distance collar, it doesn't give the measurement but one of the guys will know.
If it was all intact when you got the bike and was correct have you lost a spacer somewhere.

Have you got the bushes in the thingy ( engine alignment wotsit) in correctly that would cause a problem if they are the wrong way round.
