OK.
In fitting the 300 kit, i jetted rich this time, and never had time to plug chop. No problem I figured - I'll do it on track.
Except....
i forgot to take any jets!
Bike ran fine low down but would not take full throttle, I had to slowly feather it in to about 2/3 throttle otherwise she just bogged.
Plugs looked a bit rich so I figured no problem, that's the carbs coming onto the mains that are set [safely] rich.
Now then, in my last session, she bogged big time, unsure she was nipping up [god forbid] I pulled the clutch and did my last 2 sessions on the CBR.
Now I have her home, I have a coolant weep at the base of the bottom cylinder. I cannot of lost more than 100ml over 8 track sessions.
My Question is:
Do you think it will be ok to re-torque the base nuts [they were far too loose] now I have the right tool.
OR do i need to pull the pot and fit a new gasket - or worse, strip the motor?
Thanks for any advice in advance.
I'd be inclined to take off the barrel and syringe out some of the mix to see if it's emulsified or even try and get it all out... If you've only lost a little and the oil looks normal then just re-torque.
what jets are you running?
if it's a 21, I had 175/178 mains, B needles on the 4th clip from top, #42 slow jets and the air screws 1.5 turns out. It was around this temp on the those settings also. _________________ NSR300R - Why did i ever have a 250...
Time for a leak down tester. Even with torqueing to specified settings, I sometimes find that somethings just are not sitting properly, and I lose pressure over three or four minutes.
Something to also do, is use a very lite amount of assembly grease (I use the red Silkolene stuff) on the base gasket. When I say lite, I really mean lite. Basically just a little on my finger, and put a VERY LITE film on the two faces of the gasket. This helps in a couple ways. Helps create a better seal, as well as helps with the base gasket not sticking to the case, or the barrel.
Now you need to remember that leak means air is getting in. This means that you are technically leaning out the mixture in the cylinder. That and your compression will be off.
Damn two strokes... if they were only as easy to tune as a four stroke! _________________ Charles Gallant
I think on the head gasket yes, but I've seen a few go on the base gasket that have filled the cases with coolant. Doesn't sound like yours is any where as bad though! _________________ NSR300R - Why did i ever have a 250...

If they were easy we wouldn't be so delighted when they work. Bit like the reason we chase gorgeous women I guess... _________________ MC21SP Plaything
