Yep, we'll be there, I have booked the van and pick a working bike (an RVF400) up in about an hour or so, Billy rang earlier to confirm his CBR does run. Nothing like cutting it close.

This was a good day in general, Monkeys trackbike ran pretty much flawlessly despite being put together last week and only being rode about 5 miles beforehand, my "ever reliable" RVF was ever reliable, anything you have read about preparing your bike for a trackday can be circumvented by buying a V4 Honda and Stephens MC18 didn't damage the tyre wall, itself or Stephen too much.

Oh yeah, and Bill (Limb) was absolutely flying round. Straight down the inside of me and about 5 others at Mansfield (real steep down hill into a 90* left), his '21 cornering like something out of Tron The Movie. Really smooth, really fast, he made it look easy.

<StephenRC45> Come on, do the track day at Llandow...

<Andy> No!

<StephenRC45> Come on, why not? It'll be a scream!

<Andy> Nope! No leathers, no boots, and I just don't want to!

<StephenRC45> I've got some leathers, and Andy Hook says there's a place for you still if you want it?

<Andy> No, I don't want to put my NSR on the track - I'll get the red mist and stuff it!

<StephenRC45> Ha ha! Everyone says that!! You WON'T crash it!

<Andy> DON'T take the MC18 to Cadwell this close to D-Day...

<StephenRC45 Ha! It'll be OK...

I've told Monkey about talk of this kind and I'll say the same to you;

IMHO this (taking your bike on the track) is what it's for, it's where they were developed, it's where they belong and if it's is to be smashed to smithereens somewhere then this is where it should be, it would at least be a fitting end for a bike with HRC bits splashed all over it.
Sat there at the top of the pit lane run next to Stephen on his '18, Bill on his '21, Stephen's buddy (who's name illudes me) on his RC30 etc. is a moment that I will remember for a long time. The rattle of the dry clutches, the air heavy with the smell of 2 stroke, the anticipation of what is about to happen and when it's all over, unlike riding on the road, no nasty aftertaste caused by the knowledge that you've just been a complete dick and played russian roulette with the lives of some people who don't even know there's a game on.

Time to dig an old 400 forum signature out I believe.....

Do you never ride on the road then fontyyy?

I'm not the overtaking on blind crests and corners type (er, anymore!).

I have 3 golden rules, stick to 30's, 40's and no crossing an unbroken white line!

I ride fast, yes often faster than the speed limit in national speed limit areas, and yes that's always a risk, but it's always a risk on the road full-stop, and I defy anyone to tell me they DON'T break the speed limit.

"Save it for the track!" Does that mean you don't ride on the road, that you never speed, or that you never make rash decisions?

I DO ride excessively defensively, and figure that any manoeuvre I have to "think" about is a manoeuvre I DON'T make, because by the time I've thought about it it's too late to go!

Call me strange, but I actually like the feeling that it is dangerous on the road as it makes me ride cautiously, which is something I would not do on the track. I conciously consider diesel on roundabouts, cow sh*t on country roads, and farm entrances.

At the end of the day, I could come round a corner ar 40mph and be confronted with something/someone stopped in the middle of the road and hit it/them, but it's just as likely to happen at 40mph as it is at 80mhp, and the probability of stopping in time is just as unlikely, so I'm not saying I'm safer on the road, only more cautious. But ask Keith Butcher about being torpedoed off his MC28 by an R6 on the track and he'll tell you why it's up for sale!

Finally, I already have a great deal of expense in my life, and throwing the NSR down the track because I got caught up in a trackday "race" with a group of friends and at best ended up with a few hundred quids worth of shagged bodywork, at worst a written off NSR250 that I've cherished for over 10 years, would just kill me!

StephenRC45 will probably tell you otherwise, but I certainly don't see myself making crazy moves on the road but I do ride pretty quickly. The only thing I'm a bit of a sucker for is a nice crest or humped bridge! Smile

BTW... driving licence as clean as the day I got it, some 18 years now with no points!

Nothing personal fontyyy. I just don't like the track, and even though I said in previous posts I wouldn't be drawn into an explanation, those are some of my reasons. I love being at the events, organising things and getting people together, but that's as far as it goes.
