MC21 SE/SP fork internals, bottom got loose

Sat Apr 08, 2017 1:23 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hi all

In the processing of refurbishing two sets of SE/SP forks. Now, one of the fork internals has a defect. The very bottom of ot where you bolt it to the fork bottom with a bolt has come loose and it can turn and move up and down. Of cause this made it almost impossible to get the fork apart Sad

I'we attached two pictures. One there end with the thread hole is in the "normal" position and one there i slid it to the lowest position possible, about 10mm down the tube.

Anyone ever seen this before?? Is there any cure or do I need to find a new/used one?
My first crazy thought was to give it 4 spot welds to keep it fixed, but don't know if that a good idea Very Happy

Any help will be welcome!

Kind regards
Martin

in the second photo you can see the snap ring that will keep the compression damper shim stack from coming out the bottom. There is nothing above it to keep it stationary as once everything is bolted together it will not move. This is normal. If you wish you could remove the snap ring to clean the compression shim stack as well as push the rod out to reveal the rebound valve stack to likewise clean and inspect.

SE chrome stanchion dimensions

Fri Aug 11, 2017 9:21 am » Post: #6 » Download Post

Hey buddy
If you still have your SE/SP forks apart, would you be kind enough to measure the chrome stanchion and give me the dimensions please ? I need to replace my pitted chrome stanchions but my forks are still being used on my bike. I want to get a new pair of stanchions made so I need accurate dimensions to give to the fabricator.
Cheers
Andy

Why dont you get them re chromed, i have had three sets done by Philpotts with no problems at all, it has been said that their re chroming is harder wearing than the original.
