Well i have to say im shocked! My NSR has been in at Total Traction getting all the work done, And like most places he's taking his time (its winter anyway) but i called today and hes had it on the dyno for its first run in complete standard trim with M max Box. And the result a lowly 46HP at the back wheel Boo Hoo . but to be honest it cant be that bad as its only 2hp less than nigels when they started his bike and at donnington i was keeping up with fontyyy and Monkey. I was expecting 55hp or something but Mick reckons all these HP's are at the crank and youll loes 10 - 20% with a crap chain and sprokets and power throu the transmission. So we'll have the final result in a few days, He's gona bin the M box and do the splice himself. he was also talking about giving the bike a fast road map from the ECU all sounds good and the guy seems really keen.
Neither did I, !!!!!!!! Maybe he means the wire splice etc and set up, But he did use the words ReMap ECU, Ill ask when i see him what he did and how he did it, It could just be mechanic talk to impress the customer. LOL but i kinda think he wouldnt do that!
he may mean the gearbox splice, which tricks the PGM into choosing the 3rd gear fuel map for 4,5,6. _________________ MC21SP - Roth-tax

Even I know there are 2 splices to do on the '21, one of which does I suppose "reprogram" the PGM.
The M-max box may do nothing without one or either of these mods done (it does nothing on the NC35 anyway, and I speak from experience)
The first splice removes the retarding of the ignition at higher speeds, this is how the NSR was restricted to 113mph, there is no actual stopping it going faster like on the diesels, it just doesn't make enough power to get there as the timing gets wound back. This one is on the orange and blue wire on the pgm. This could definately be termed "reprogramming".
The second then tells it to use the more agressive third gear map for 4th, 5th and 6th. This is just a trick done on the GPS before it even gets to the PGM, the PGM then thinks the bike never leaves 3rd gear.
Without the 1st mod the 2nd one is useless as the power will still get rolled off.
You can make 55 bhp or so with just the spices and some jetting easy, Andy's made 57bhp with his pipes and Monkey's carbs/std airbox as we played trying to get the mid range to work properly. I presume he's done both splices. Bills made 66bhp on std pipes. _________________ Please do not PM me technical questions, if you can't find it on the Forum start a thread
what dose the M Max Box do then? i thought it did the splice for you without the need to cut any wires? Im sure she's derestrited it may just be the dyno being used reports diffrently, otherwise im sure i would have not been able to keep up with you guys and in one or 2 case get passed if the bike wasnt derestricted????? I have no idea at this point but im sure itll all become clear, maybe the m max box isnt doing its job propperly?!?!?!?!
If Nigle is reading this maybe you can chip in to say if your bike had the M Max Box when it went to Micks as he said the bike was kicking out about 48hp in standard trim before all the work.
Define "de restricted", the NSR doesn't have any physical restriction like the CBR400 did (at 113mph the bike cuts the spark to 2 cylinders), it was just set up in such a fashion as to only produce 45bhp and go 113 mph.
And don't be so sure about the "power" needed to run on the track with someone, I watched a young local lad run a bike with under 50bhp at the front of the fast group on my 1st trackday and have watched Billy run very close to Steve on his 130+bhp RC45. _________________ Please do not PM me technical questions, if you can't find it on the Forum start a thread

So what yer saying is im a real talant and did well to keep up on my nsr that was 20hp lower than billys LOL Q billy comments
Fontyy i have no idea i thought the m max box did the splicing and that my bike would be around 55hp before start and with all the gear on around 60 65, it shows you what can happen, if mick really can release all that from her ill be well happy, over the moon, most places ive taken bikes to (okay it was just a jet kit and can) only managed 4hp at best and that was on the blade... the most ive ever had out a bike was my SB6 Bimota i spent 6K on engine mods and she went from 121hp at the back wheel (bimota say 156HP BOLLOCKS) to a 180BHP an it was uncontrolable, it was just mad! had it for 1000 miles before she went POP big time what a waste of money.
Well see, we also have to remeber that diffrent dynos give diffrent readings.
I know it's nice to be able to say your bikes got 1623bhp at the wheel but it's not the be all and end all if your NSR makes 56-60 at the end of it... A dead smooth curve (can I say that?) is I think more important than a peaky one... So if you get 58bhp with no dips at all, you should be very happy! Any thing after that is a bonus... Ride a 3XV with only 55bhp that's well set up and watch it kill our 60+bhp nsr's I know, sorry in advance for the blasphemy! _________________ NSR300R - Why did i ever have a 250...

Max im not worried at all, the bike was absolutly fine before it felt like a fecking rocket ship and as i said it was fine at donnington, there was only 2 bikes passing me in the slow group, and i was mid pack with fontyy and billy in the meduim (until billy cheated and took out the disel) like you say ill be happy with any gain and ive told mick to set her up safe, as i dont want it going pop. THE BIMOTA WAS FUN THOU LOL

Monkey loves his NSR like a first born child, I've had to twist his arm for months for him to get it on the track at all and he was clearly being quite careful with it, he was like "that was nice, now give me something I dare thrash the life out of"
This was also my first time out on a dry track on my NSR.
And don't recall you keeping up with his CBR400 much less blitzing him and 4 others down Craner Curves or into McLeans (like I did when I got up to speed ).
I won't mention them moving you down a group _________________ Please do not PM me technical questions, if you can't find it on the Forum start a thread
