I am a new NSR OWNER just got my sweet NSR yesterday
just got my NSR MC21 yesterday, the bike was sitting in a dusty storeroom for years we have manage to start the bike and take it back to my garage really bad running.
I started to dismantle the bike and i saw that the inlet manifold is really bad condition other tubes and plastics are good and not cracked since the bike was inside. I also want to clean the carbs but the cup screws are really shacked i can't get them off any ideas how to do it?
Hi there and welcome!
Your English is good, where in the world are you?
The carb manifolds do break up when they get old, try and get a new one, Tyga can probably help if no one has one spare.
With the carb screws you may be able to cut a slot (with a hacksaw) in the screw and get a flat blade screwdriver in there or use a reverse tap or stud remover to get them out. Or use some very good mole grips. If not maybe a local engineers can help?
As for the "yellow plastic", no it's not a restriction, they're the rectifiers, HRC make slightly more open ones but they [original or HRC] are required.
The RC valve motor only moves if it has to, not just as it's been powered up, if you unplug the TPS (wires coming from the carbs, go into a plug then into the loom, unplug this plug) then turn the ignition on it should move. Details on checking the RC valves position here (down near the bottom of the page). _________________ Please do not PM me technical questions, if you can't find it on the Forum start a thread
I am from Cyprus, I used to ride an RVF NC35 back in 98, now i saw this NSR and memories returned.
Will try the trick with the hacksaw on the scews.
Another question that i forgot to mention. the bike has tyga race exhaust and i think the bike is not rejeted, is it nessesary to rejet with stock airbox and airfilter or shall i go 1-2 marks up?
I've come acreoss a lot of carbs with knackered float bowl screws and if my screwdriver doesn't do the job then I just grab them with my trusty pipe grips and give them a tweak. That does the job.
You'll definitely be needing a new carb insulator (carb rubber).
You won't want to run the bike with the boots on there. Definitely get new ones, as the intake leak will seize the bike pretty quickly.
Also once you get the screws out of the carbs, replace them with Allen head screws. I HATE Phillips head screws with a passion. _________________ Charles Gallant
Looks like everything has just about been covered, so all I'll say is how refreshing it is to get decent pictures demonstrating your issues! Thank you!!
You wouldn't believe how often we are asked to diagnose problems by looking at a blurry image taken with a mobile phone, that even the ACIU at Medmenham (Google it!) would've had trouble deciphering!!
Like Charles and Matt both say though, make sure you get the inlet manifold replaced immediately, else you are looking at a siezure. You are lucky it's not already died!! _________________ Andy.
