Bill's done well in racing on 090's, Andy likes the Dunlop GPR's and I've run them on the '18. My #1 tyre though is the Pirelli but there are almost twice the price of the 090.

Ooh, in my opinion that one's an unanswerable question John!

I used to love my Dragons; Corsa (V.soft) front and standard rear worked really well for me, and I really like the Dunlop GPR70's as they feel pretty similar to the Dragons.

I personally hate Bridgestones, but many riders love them and swear by them! At the same time, plenty of people slate the GPR70 (and GPR70SP) as an outdated tyre, but I know a few people that are rather quick on them!!

The only way to go really is to try a set out and see how you get on, then either compare them to something else, or if you get on with them, stick to them! It's all down to personal feel though.

Stick with the stock sizes, stick with the top brands, Pirelli (Metzeler), Dunlop, Bridgestone, Michelin, and most important of all, get the correct speed rating!

I can't say Ive had any trouble at all with Pirelli's. The RC45 on slicks at a wet Cadwell was a bit of a handful but thats the only trouble I've had.

The Dunlops are a good safe bet (the GPR70 that is) though I think Fontyyy told me they were stoping production of them soon or already have done so stocks will soon be limited.

No, there not. I've only been stopped once and the guy was ok really. My tyre selection is alittle limited as it runs 16.5" so its slick or wet really.

Given a 17" wheel though I would always run a road legal tyre (whoops I lie, I run a pair of cut slicks on the F3 too, I guess I'm very bad).

I've had no problems with 090's but dont have anything to compare them against as they are all I've used.

I favour the 090's myself, but as Andy says, the most important thing is to fit the right size and rating. All modern tyres have more than enough grip, stability etc. for general road riding, and running the correct pressures is probably more important than anything else for good handling on the road.

If you don't take it on the track and/or are not an extremely 'spirited' Wink road rider I doubt you'd really notice much difference between any of the tyres mentioned so far in any case. If it were me it'd be whichever was the best price/availbility between them.

I recently traded my Michelin Pilots for GPR70SP and I must say they feel really good, they where on my bike for a couple of track days too.

I've used GPRs, 090s and Metzeller M1s and as an all rounder it has to be the 090 for me awesome grip in the dry and knee down at Cadwell in the wet. The GPRs IMO were as good as the 090s in the dry but didnt come close in the wet as for the metzellers again nice and grippy in the dry but never tryed them in the wet.

so I would say most of the tyres I have mentioned (for road use anyway) are much of a muchness as you will never push their dry limit on the road anyway and if like myself you try hard not to get caught out in the rain then it just comes down to price.

I had this tyre choice dilema some months ago, and my '28SP was fitted with GPR70's when I bought it last year. After some deliberation I chose to stick with the GPR's as they felt very good in the weather the bike sees - ie. cool - hot temeratures, never in the wet. The well worn GPR70's fitted when I bought the bike gave excellent traction/side grip, warm up OK and have never given me any big scares. I got the GPR70SP tyres which I think are a newer compound or something. They are quite expensive though, cost me £160 plus fitting.
