Final questions before i start the engine!

Tue Apr 17, 2007 8:36 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

I have just a couple of small queries I hope u guys can help clear up! First up at the front of the bike i have a small black connector that hasnt been used but that i suspect is for a kill switch. The bike came with no switches on the right handle bar - are there supposed to be some there and if so whats on them? Secondly, i have the PV servo bolted to the frame under the tank but it sits a little uncomfortably - is there supposed to be something under the bracket that would effectively raise it a little hence making it sit better? And also, having read all i could find on the site about setting the valves up i decided to leave that job to the pro's and start the engine without them hooked up to start with - is that ok or will it cause any damage? I started to fit the cables but found that that between the brackets on the cylinders and the pulleys the cables didnt even look straight? Lastly toward the rear of the loom there is an earth wire on the left hand side - where is that meant to bolt on the frame and will i have to scratch my paintwork off so it is in contact with the bare metal of the frame? Oh, and there is a wire on the underside of the pillion seat - where does that get bolted to?

Thankyou guys - by the way the bike is an mc18 (j2)

I just found one more thing im not sure what to do with. Its like a bracket or something which doubles up as a spacer for the swing arm. I was putting the chain on today and found it swinging back and forth completely forgotten about! It lines up perfectly with a threaded hole behind the front sprocket so im assuming it will end up sitting there but what is it for and what does it do?

Cheers

The small black connector you speak of sounds like the front brake light switch connector,if you aint got no switches on the right handlebar you have a bit of a problem mate Confused no kill /light switch and also a big gap in between the grip and front brake master cylinder Wink got any pictures that would help

Ok thats interesting and slightly worrying! I wondered why my bike didnt appear to have a kill switch as i could see one on the sites wiring diagram! I have the headlight/indicators switches etc mounted to the left handlebar but it looks like there have been some subtle mods to the loom (although im probably wrong). The bracket that holds the front brake resorvior is home made and can only be pushed so far up the handlebar before the top yolk stops it. This leaves very little room for switches between that bracket and the throttle grip. There is a seperate section of loom about a 1.5 foot long which connects to a red connector block among the cluster infront of the PV servo which has two little female spade connectors and a bullet type connector which i guessed where for the front brake light and a kill switch as the bullet one has been crushed effectively making it useless. Could this be right? As far as i can tell i have connected everything else correctly and that only left the little black connector block which was beside two of the front indicator wires. I have taken some pics which i will try and add later on. Did anyone have any ideas on my other questions in particular the swinging bracket by the front sprocket?

Thanks all

Now i am really confused cos my bike defo doesnt have a fuse box mounted by the clocks. The only fuse box on my loom is screwed to the top of the battery box! I have attached a pic of my handle bar setup and also the black connector im talking about along with another pic of the seperate section of loom which i thought was for the front brake and kill switch. There is also a pic here of the bracket by the sprocket that has me stumped. Cheers

The hanging thing near the sprocket attaches with an Allen bolt through the frame and into the engine case. I forget exactly how it works but I think its some kind of anti torque device.

An anti-torque device??? Man this bike gets more confusing! I rebuild an '88 KR-1 and that was a peice of cake compared to this! So can anyone show me a pic of a fully assembled hangy thing? And does anyone know what the story may be with my electrics?

Cheers

Shock me why don't you?!

The suspension on my mates mountain bike is more advanced than a KR1!!

There are threads covering the torque-arm on the forum if you do a seach for "torque AND arm".

Ok thanks everyone for the advice i have rec'd! I did the search as suggested by andy and it seems that i basically put a bolt through the end of the torque arm and bush and tighten into engine casing and thats job done!

So im going to get a battery tmrw and test my electrics the way they are. This means i will have no kill switch and the black connector box i have been talking about at the front of the loom will remain unattched to anything! We'll see what happens! Will be interesting to know the history of the bike if it does turn out to have a race bike set up as suggested by beaxer! Cheers!
