Hi, is it possible to change from the standard MC16 CDI units and up grade to later models, or to an ignition mapping type of set up?

Yes, you cna fit any of the other model's ign's but you will also need to change the fly wheels and pick ups.

However the RS and early F3's also used the mc16-ish style ign so there isnt much wrong with it.

No, they dont plug and play.

But they are based on the same ideas using an RC valve controler etc etc.

HRC made 2 types of race ign for the '16 the first one used the stock cdi's with a HRC RC valve controller and an F3 harness (I have one of them for sale). The second type used a fully HRC system that didnt use the twin CDI's which is closer still to an RS.

You can't fit RS ign though to a stock 16 as you need the F3 crank cases.
