My name is Steve, I live in Leeds UK, I have just bought a MC16. I have an Aprilia SL1000 as my main road bike, so the NSR has been bought as a project to work on in my spare time. I'm planning a lot of mods with the plan to end up with a nice little bike to take to track days.
hey man nice paint job you have there! the sp paint work looks well on a 16, i never thought it would, but you changed my mind about the new paint job i wanted to do. can you post more pictures of different sides on. also a 16 owner. _________________ feel the wind
Thanks for the replys. Max, I'll email you later from my other PC and I'll send a few more pics of the bike. Its a nice looking paint scheme, although my bike is a lot better looking in the pics, its not so nice close up. Andy, glad to see another MC16 owner, looks like a lot of the bikes on this site are much later models. I've been looking at the bike this afternoon. I picked it up very cheap as a non running project. Got a spark no problem, so hopefully she'll be up and running in the next couple of weeks.
Hi Steve
Good to see another NSR owner on the right side of the Pennies (eh fenton????)
I live not far from Leeds, maybe I'll see your NSR at Sherburn when you've finished it, I've got a MC11.....
That's the spare or repairs one from eBay isn't it? I was going to bid on that but I've got 3 bikes already and no more space. Have you got the engine running yet? The ad was very non-comittal about it.
Have fun - that's what NSR's are about!!!!!!!!!!
All the best

if you haven't ridden one of these before then you are in for a treat.
well come to the Daddy forum.
i like most of the people here have ridden and owned nice bikes but for the money i've got say i think the mc16 is a beauty on the road.
Okay zero torque but learning to keep the power on pipe is a joy and the brakes can stop the thing from 100mph like nothing else...honest.
and the honda twin vibe and sound is pure magic to the ears. mine is an 87 and just did my first 160 (distance that is) via eastbourne this weekend without any major problems and didn't get any oil on the silk shirt either.
don't think you'll get much in the way of trick parts for it unless you are prepared to pay, machine or spend plenty of hours on the tools. my advice standardise it and spend the money on petrol, insurance, tax, tyres, oil and quaility maintenance parts. it looks trick enough and lets face it, when it's on pipe nobody will see the blemishes or cracks.
Did the original freddy spencer rep have Honda MC11 astralite wheels...nice?
Andy can you put a separate page for mc16 owners.?
I'd like to fit Astralights to my MC16, but they are rather narrow. I have a plan involving NS400 and VF1000 wheels, but whether I get round to it I just don't know.
I'll probably end up with white Magteks, or even just keep the MC21R wheels that are currently on it.
I've thought about splitting the forum into sections before, but the popular vote (is that the People's Popular Vote?! ) didn't want to change the current layout. _________________ Andy.

I've not got the bike running yet. I was hoping to bump start it. I bought a RD350 last year that had been stood for years. With fresh fuel and plugs it wouldn't start on the kick start but fired up easy with 5 mins running up an down the street. Both my nsr tyres are burst so I cant get the bike rolling yet. I plan to fit some modern 17" wheels, thinking 110 front and 150 rear, maybe from a 400cc import or an RGV. Then I'd like to try and get some more modern bodywork, and eventually end up with a 250 gp style look-a-like.

such blasphemy
Fitting 17" wheels to the '16 is a rather involving job I'm afraid. The rear would need a larger swingarm form a later model and the front would need matching discs and calipers adapted to fit the forks, again it might be easier to fit a complete front end from a later model.
Modern 250gp rep body work is available but not to bolt on to the '16, sorry.
If you want a modern looking bike it might be better to get the '16 running and then buy a '21 which is easier to get go faster/look nicer parts for. And as many on this forum will agree with, one NSR is never enough.
The best thing about the '16 is that it is now being viewed as a classic as it was the first modern 250 sports bike. It was only in production for a year and so getting bling parts for it is nigh on impossible, unless you are Andy _________________ it's a name, not a condition

I`m going to be listing a ZXR250 upside-down front end on the classified section. I bought it when thinking of fitting it to an MC21.
Not going to bother now.
I bought it from nsrmik on this forum.
He`s fitted an MC16 stem. Got forks, yokes with `16 stem, wheel(110, i think), discs, M/cylinder & calipers.
Stanchions need re-chroming as they`ve pitted slightly. No oil leaks though.
Sorry for "touting for business" Andy, just going to post in classifieds now!
I've done quite a few, but only ever been to croft. I really want to do more, will have to use the aprilia for now. Think I might get a pickup truck next year, then drive it to other circuits with the bike on the back.
