Hi All,

I'm new to these boards, and have been wanting a NSR for a long time now (since I first got into motorcycles) and wanted to get some ideas on approximate prices for various models.

I'm currently looking at a bone stock in decent to good condition MC21 R-model with current California clean title. What would a fair price for something like this be?

What about a SE?

Got my 21R with all the SP parts from Cali with a title for 6,600, completely rebuilt ground up. I still think that it was a steal.
But then there was the unbelivable 28 Repsol that just sold for 6,500, which I feel fell victim to the holiday season. Should have gone for more.
I've talked to others that wouldn't let their 28's go for 11,000..... I feel the same about mine, there's no reasonable price I'd let it go for.

All said, a titled 21 in stock condition worth buying... I'd say 5,000 and up.

Hi...

It is strange some how but here in Greece, a decent MC21 SE or SP doesn't exceed the amount of 1700 euros (2500 USD)...
Obviously they don't appriciate what they have in their hands...Or just don't care...Or just don't know...

I also payed 1700 US for an 21SE with no title and doesn't run, but it does have some sweet inverted forks
I just got all the parts to get it back together for another 400... The bearing from you mixalisen.

These NSR's aren't to common here, you can go out and buy a pretty new 600 or even a liter bike for close to the same price. I'll take the NSR any day !

California plated MC21R maybe $4500 at the most if it's in decent shape and runs well. That's a guess though because I can't say I've ever seen a R for sale here. I've seen plated 21SE's go for about $5k or so. I did see one really clean 21SE go for around $6500, but that was unusual. Nobody really wants the antique 21's here in the states so the prices are reasonable.

SLF-951 I bought that Repsol that I think you are talking about. Just to keep the 28 market from being skewed by it. It isn't a real Repsol SP, it is a '94 SE. It has Repsol bodywork that has some imperfections but it does run well and I'm very happy with the purchase.

A California title is probably worth an extra grand if you live in California. If not then it aint worth squat. There was a guy, cant remember his name now, who had a MC21 for sale in Colorado for 5 grand. But that was last fall.

California is the hardest state to get a US title...... That being said, a Cali title can be transfered to any other state. If mine didn't come with it, I would have never gotten it plated.

I have found a couple of loop holes in the system here in PA. I will try to get a title for my other bike.... But, you have to know the right people.

Thats what Im saying. I heard that due to emissions, California wont issue a new title, so be prepared to pay "extra" for it.

The OP mentioned a California title that's why I mentioned prices with that title. As SLF mentioned it's worth more even for other states for ease of registering.

California is so tough these days that even though I had a california title and current registration they still questioned the transfer to my name.

Not really CoolHand...... I'm saying that a titled NSR in the states(not just Cali) is worth more, period. They're not common here, and to have a legal for the road NSR is even less common. I'm sure I could sell my now Pennsylvania titled MC21 to someone in Cali and there would be no problem with the title transfer. Once it has been issued a US title with it's VIN, you're done.

And yes, there will be questions about the title transfer... Due to the 11 didgit VIN's, I had some problems with mine too.

And, it's not a Cali emmisions thing...... It's an EPA thing, nation wide. On top of that, any US vehicle needs to wear a NHTSA tag..... NSR's don't have them...... So, NSR's are completely illegal here. They are not supposed to be let across the border.... At all.

There won't be many more coming here..... Titled ones = more cash

An out of state title would raise questions about the vehicle coming in to California. I was going to buy a NSR that was titled and registered in Nevada but the CA DMV said they would not title that vehicle because the VIN didn't match approved vehicles. The bike used to be registered in California so I thought it would be ok but they didn't care where it used to be registered only where it's registered now.

From what I understand once it leaves California it can never come back.

Yes they are rare, hence the pricing. There was a second generation MC18 here with 16000 Km on the clock for 4500.00 I ended up getting the earlier R4J Rothmans rep with less than 9000k on it and it looks like it just came off the showroom floor. The only prob is a peeled sticker. I got that for four grand, a good deal I reckon. I had never even seen one until I saw that one in the shop, so I know how rare they are on this side of the pond.

In Canada we are lucky as emissions legislation does not affect motorcycles period. But our wonderful government wants to change current import laws from 15 to 25 years. So if that happens say goodbye to anything newer than a 1983 model motorcycle. Those of us that already have one are lucky. It will probably drive the value up as well.

Sounds to me California is a bit of a grey area, may just depend on how bad a day Rose the clerk has had or it just may depend if you have a title. And if its the latter and you dont have one, your not getting the bike on the street.

Thanks for all the replies. I have one that I'm looking at now, but it may be a bit high for what it is. Unfortunately, I have to sell one bike before I can pick this one up (potentially) so we'll see how that goes.
