RC Servo Motor cycling

Fri Feb 22, 2008 5:38 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

I am working on the purchase of an MC18. Price has been agreed after the bike was carefully examined. I do, though, have one question. When turning on the ignition but with the engine not running, should the RC valve servo motor cycle through to verify that it is operational? I'm told that other manufacturer's 2-stroke models with exhaust valves cycle the servo motor when the ignition is turned on.

In the case of the MC18 in question the bike starts fine and after a short period of time settles down to a nice idle. (I didn't ride the bike because the temperature here today is -10 degrees Celsius. In other words, it's a typical Winter day where I live.) What's throwing me is that when I pull the tank and try to cycle the servo motor by just turning on the ignition, nothing happens.

I've read through the forum discussions on rc servo motors but I'm not quite clear on what should be happening.

Thanks,

Ken

The RC servo will only "sweep" back to its reset position if the it was in the incorrect position when the ignition was switched off.

A simple test is to turn the motor to Hi with the ignition off, then turn the ignition on. The servo should sweep, but in one direction only.

The best test is to disconnect the T.P.S., turn the ignition on, and watch for the servo to open to Hi. Turn the IGN off, reconnect the T.P.S., and turn the IGN back on again. The servo should then reset to Lo.
