Fork Oil and Seals...

Wed Jun 18, 2008 9:29 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

Do any of you guys know how much fork oil each leg of an MC21 should hold please? After draining and measuring mine both are different.

And also where I can buy a decent set of fork oil seals? I bought some cheapies off that auction site and after a couple of hours at Cadwell yesterday one had gone again. They did look pretty cheap and nasty when they arrived but I havent been able to find any more.

Cheers.

Hello mate, I am trying to find out how much oil to put in each leg of my MC18. Did you ever get to the bottom of the problem,?
Cheers

Maybe that's why no-one answered?! Wink

Cheers Andy - simply read the instructions on the can. Should have known. Its -5 degrees in the shed and my brain was obviously malfunctioning. Only problem is I haven't got enough fork oil.

Yeah, that could be a problem! I personally mix 10w and 15w fork oil, but I'm a little large compared to the average Japanese rider I imagine! Very Happy

If you are closer to the ideal weight for an NSR (50~70kg), or if the suspension has been revalved, then 10w is much better as a thinner oil will always work better than a thicker one.

for an mc18 its different levels

mc18 2j and 4j 429cc and 128mm air gap
mc18 r5k 435cc and 136mm air gap

the air gap is measured without springs with the fork leg compressed
