MC18 Speedo

Wed Oct 06, 2021 1:51 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Finally getting around to trying to get the speedo working on my MC16.
I have MC18 wheels installed as well as the right angle adaptor and left engine cover.
Does anyone have a picture of the interface used between the plastic coupler on the right angle drive and the output shaft from the transmission?
Does the shaft itself have a protrusion that mates to the coupler?
The parts diagram does not show anything obvious.
Thanks for any help.

The MC16 output shaft doesn't have the same end as the later models, so can't drive the MC18/21 speedo.

It may be possible to make an adaptor to screw to the end of the shaft, or rebuild the transmission with a later shaft.

forgive me if I've mis read/interrupted incorrectly your post

I've yet to put my MC18 back together but always assumed the plastic interface picked up its drive from the end of the shaft that the front sprocket is attached to and then transferred through the L shape coupling to the speedo cable

Jeff
As I couldn't figure out how to post a pic via a PM I've updated here as well

the speedo drive as measured on the flat surface is 7.8mm, I'm guessing you can work out the circumference as you can take that from the plastic coupling that goes over it

let me know if you need anything else

all the best

Nick
