HRC Spec Link Plates for the Rear Suspension.

Sun Jan 26, 2025 10:49 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

I thought I would make this a separate thread to try and show the difference between stock and OEM. Literally years ago Andy suggested. "While it's all apart, I'd strongly recommend a set of HRC spec link plates for the rear suspension. This will lift the rear about 50mm and quicken the steering, and also increase the rising rate of the shock, which is always going to be a little under damped/spring for us [usually] heavier western riders"

So I got some, sadly not from Performance Engineering which is where I should've got them, but on e-bay I think...

Anyway....here's the differences...note you can flip the HRC plates so it changes the geometry. To be honest I'm not sure which way to go. #1 or #2. I don't want to do anything that will change the stance so much that components start interfering with each other.

It's clearly not an exact science because I'm free holding the camera but I think you get the idea. It looks like Position #2 throws the swingarm down the lowest thus raising the backend the highest.

We always fit them as HRC intended:

Don't recall ever having any interference between components, so should be good to go.

-10 points for not getting ours though! 🤣🤣🤣

Edit: I'd be interested to know what the dimensions of yours are. They don't look right!

I was under the impression that MC18 OEM link plates had a hole in them and retro fitted ones didn’t

Got me wondering now as mine are solid like your original ones Chris and I thought mine “had” been retro fitted but now I’m not so sure
Anyone got the Eye to Eye measurements to enable a basic check

This may be more helpful than a 3D image.

Shortest between the swingarm and dog bone, longest between dog bone and shock.

And here it is in a dry fit....

this is the shock by the way....about £329 from https://www.wemoto.com/bike/honda/nsr/250/1988/121/rear-yss-z-series-monoshock it's always comforting these days to have a component listed as being compatible with your exact model!

Old one is 'not refurbishable'

My MC18 rear shock was rebuilt at GT performance. It looks like new.

And that has always pissed me off 🤣😂
….. when I asked, I was about three years to late as they’ve stopped offering this service

However I to purchased a YSS exactly the same as yours Chris and was pleasantly surprised by how good it was.
