running pre mix

Thu Sep 29, 2005 3:50 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Wonderd if anyone could tell me what i need to do to the pump so i can run pre mix. ie just not put oil in the oil tank or does the pump have to come off??? Reason i want to know is the bike seized at brands Sad because it wasn't delivering the oil, so now i'd rather not risk it and use pre mix.

Hi,

No you can't really not put oil in as you'll be just sucking in air instead.

To do a proper job, you will need to remove the reservoir, filling loop, pump and all hoses. You'll then need to get the oil pump blanking kit from either HRC or the one from TYGA. Personally I think the TYGA item is a better solution. You then need to fill the oil feed hoses on the carbs with solder or something to stop them drawing in air.

Hey presto! Lots of messy mixing and a cavernous new area where you can actually get to the top of the engine where all the oil bits used to be!

I took the oil tank and all the other stuff off. But I left the pump on just undid all the lines from the pump. I blocked the oil inlets into the carbs with a couple of rubber/ plastic caps. I got the caps off of new motorcycle batteries. The batteries are shipped with a little red cap where the overflow tube goes. Anyway, I've had it like that for years without any problems. I still have the caps on the carbs now. I did take the oil pump off and installed the oil pump block off seal.

Cheers for that. I didn't think it would be as easy as just not putting oil in. Im going to be busy this weekend tinkering with it.
Nice to see your bike in mcn maxim.
