Just got my bike back from the shop. The mechanic did a few things to my bike that make it feel completely different. First is a set of new Dunlop tires. The traction is so much different from before. Secondary, the oil injector is taken completely, the performance of the engine is very constant now. (He said he found the transly is full of 2T oil.) Third, the accelerator cable is down to only one. The accel. handle is much lighter now compare to before. He's also washed the carb. & the clean the spark-plugs for me. I am really happy that I listen to his advise and make all the above changes. Yappeee......
Good to hear your NSR is on form again - and yes, it's amazing how a set of good tyres will transform the bike!
It sounds like the seal on the underside of the oil pump had slipped, causing the 2T reservoir to drain into the transmission. This would indeed have cause a huge amount of drag on the transmission and made the performance seem very sluggish.
I wonder how many carb springs have broken, causing the bike to crash, that required the introduction of a close cable for the throttle? _________________ MC21SP Plaything

Really? I was thinking of binning mine on the race bike too...
How's the 300 coming on? _________________ MC21SP Plaything

Yeah I'm serious. It's weight and drag you don't need, and the extra cable drags on the steering too... _________________ MC21SP Plaything

I don't run my throttle cables through the clamp on the frame, so they don't bind at all. They are also regularly oiled.
On the track it wouldn't matter too much (removing the closer) as there are provisions for running on/wide, but on the road a sticking throttle is a recipe for disaster, and a closing cable is not necessarily a must, but it is recommended I think personally.
Oh absolutely! Wouldn't go without a closer on the road - stuff comes the other way at you frechristsake. It's mad!
At least on the track we all go the same direction (mostly) and there's run off if it goes wrong (mostly). _________________ MC21SP Plaything

Good advices guys.
The guy who fixed my bike was in the track before too. No wonder he recommended to eliminated the close-cable. The reason I brought my bike in the shop was because the close-cable was broken last week. The cable was torn in two due to old age. Luckily, I still managed to drive slowly for 15 mins to the shop. Like Andy said, the calbe was re-routed without being clamped to the frame now.
Nonetheless, the close-cable must be there for a good reason. I shall find a set of new cable soon and make sure there are not clamp to the frame.
