Well, one thing I would do is to get a PO Box in an area does not require emission test. I know people with "race" car and bike have done that way before. I use to live in Tucson for 9 years and loved the riding weather.
I did mine in Cali with no issues. Basically did it as a special construction bike. Reg'd it as a 2000 Honda 250. Took me about three trips to the DMV, and one trip to the CHP.
Didn't have any connections, no help, just let the people at the DMV walk me through the process.
Tips:
1. Don't argue with the DMV people
2. Be nice to them
3. Ask them how to register a bike that isn't in the DMV system.
4. Don't lie, but don't give any more info then needed.
5. When they hand you the plate/reg/title don't jump up and down and yell "I BEAT THE SYSTEM!!!".
6. When the friendly Inspection officer asks you if you mix the gas with oil, tell them "No, I just put gas in the gas tank and go." Remeber item 4. You don't need to tell them you put oil in another tank and it gets mixed with the gas elsewhere?
The Short VIN was repalced with a California Vehicle ID, so in the end it doesn't matter what the VIN is. _________________ Charles Gallant
I almost bought an RGV250 a couple years ago that had a Vermont title. About 10 years ago I got an Rebuild title in Florida for a bike that did not have a title, and that is my plan for my NSR. I hope that gives you some ideas. _________________ james

I had mine inspected with DMV and an hour later I was at the CHP office. After that, Back to DMV and whahhhLa...
Of course I left the pipes @ home. And the Bike in the back of a Dodge Caravan..lol Whatever you do have the odometer around 7500 kmh. No Emission label needed. CHP told me.
What about the required paperwork? Being in Taiwan, the only paperwork I have is the factory invoice stating its frame and engine number and when it was built.
I am going to sell the bike in Taiwan before returning to the states, but if there is a possibility of getting it titled and registered with basically no paperwork, then I would rather just take it with me.
I just don't find it fair to be introduced to such an amazing machine and then have it ripped from my hands. Its......its just not right.
I wouldn't worry as much about registraition as I would about getting it past customs. Once its here, we can find a way to register it. Get it here first. Most people import bikes like these as race machines. But it would be better if if you shipped it without lights and other road going equipment. But customs doesn't check every container. I think if you shipped the motor seperatly it could just be called parts. Its not really a motor vehicle if it doesn't have a motor. _________________ james

Brick!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Customs! I didn't know this would be a problem at all. Truthfully, I know nothing about the entire shipping process let alone the rules and regulations about customs. So are you saying that if I ship it from Taiwan and just take off the mirrors and blinkers and write that its a race bike, it will pass?
It will probably be brought in from Califorinia and somehow shipped to Pennsylvania Im guessing. Its kinda funny how we are willing to go through such a hassle for an old bike like this when we can just buy a brand new one, but in my mind there literally are no other bikes, so I have no choice.
I have my 93 mc21 registered as a 1980 when the vin numbers were short and 2 strokes were legal,if they ask tell them you restyled the bike to make it look more modern, plus my insurance was about 50.00 a year just say it is a 250
