NSR250 R PGM IV

Sun May 21, 2006 11:01 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hello....cliff here in Florida. Can anyone tell me how to check the PGM IV to see if it is working properly. Is there a place I can send it if not. Currently, when I place the card in(stock card) nothing happens. No lights, no gauges, no nothing. Battery is charged. Just need to know where to start....and thanks for the help. Cliff

It should at least click ON. The keycard hits a little switch that turns the unit ON so it can read the card in the first place.

I Checked the fuses...they appear good. thats kinda why I'm looking for help. I place the card in and get NOTHING. Can the PGM be burned from the RC valve? How would I know that? Is there somewhere I can send it to have it checked??? TYGA?, Apexleisure? Harc-Pro?, HRC???? HEEEELLLPPP (hehehe) Thanks everyone Cliff in Florida

So has the bike ever worked? I mean is it the right card for the PGM?

A quick check is to see if the number on the back of the cad matches the PIN number on the back of the PGM.

Just remove the clocks and you'll see it written on the PGM on a kinda silver sticker.

...and while you have the clocks off checking the code, check the keycard switch to see if it is plugged in and activating the PGM. The switch is also directly under the clocks.

Power actually getting to the card switch (from 7.5v fuse) and/or PGM?

Presuming it's never worked RACER38 is the man to ask if if does anything at all with a wrong card, he's got dozens of them. You can't just flick the switch with something and get some life, i.e. the card the wrong way does nothing at all (not even a click) as you describe.

'28 wiring diagrams here, nice one Jamie Wink

I bought the bike from Scuderia of San Francisco via Ebay. It was a stolen recovery bike (Police auction). Some hear-say through a number of people I spoke with said the bike had a blown motor from the theft. I eventually tracked down the original owner who stated it had been stolen, and through her(yes a girl owned it) info. contacted the insurance company that had the actual keycard. They sent the key to me. But talking to the owner, I was wondering how the bike could have been stolen(driven away) if she had the only key??? Maybe it was a boyfriend thing-argument or insurance job....whatever. At any rate, She had to send the key to them in order to collect the pay-off. The wiring doesn't look to have been tampered with(hotwired) I don't think you can do that with an NSR. There is NO number on the Stock card(only Japenese lettering) I also have a New HRC 030 matching number card(I ordered it myself{Harc-Pro})It does not work either. Fuses are good, switch is plugged in. Think I'll take it down to a local shop for electric diagnostic. Anything else Guys???? THANKS Cliff

A side note: I am absolutely thrilled to have this bike. I am so looking forward to the opportunity to make it to what It was and should be. I have an MC21, and its great too. But the 28....there's something about it. Before I leave the house most mornings, I peek my head into the garage, just to look at the bike....sometimes I stand there, thinking, "I'm so glad Honda made this bike"...its simply great. Seems like I've owned a hundred bikes, but this one, while not even running, In some unexplainable way, it calls me out there, just to give me peace about its very existance...
Maybe that's weird, maybe too much info. for you guys, but at my age, I'm comfortable, I'm secure in my manlyness(hehe)...I'm sure you guys know what I'm talking about. My woman sure doesn't! Thanks again for all your help. Cliff in Florida

You done the wiresplice? HRC card needs it or it does not work.

See bottom of http://www.nsr-world.com/tuning/250-tuning/ignition/ for details, std card still works (normally), check your jetting if the HRC card does get it running, it will need to be richer than std.
If it's totally stock, I'd put some 155 mains in (std is 140) just to be safe, with std pipes and airbox it might be OK but on the other hand it could be $5 well spent.........you don't have to join me in the seized it first day club Rolling Eyes
