And..........nip!

Sat Oct 07, 2006 6:51 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Just whipping down the A6 this evening for some chips, fairly cool eve, the bike was going really really well (and we all know what that means) approaching a quick corner, around 11000 in 5th, just rolled off and it nipped up, got the clutch in nice and quick (must have, it stayed rubber side down) gave it a few mins, kicked it up again and rode the 125 home Rolling Eyes

Terrible photo, I'll try and get a better one in the daylight but theres nothing much to see, some damage near the top of the exhaust port and a slight pick up mark on the other side that feels like it would come out;

There is a small mark in the middle between the ports, that was there before.

I've got the bits lying around so it's running again now Cool

So, bear this in mind, on the edge boys Twisted Evil

Very remote.

The stock setup is designed for a huge range of domestic Japanese conditions, from snow to blazing summers.

But that's stock, very stock - TOTALLY STOCK!! Smile

They were, for about a week Laughing

But closer investigation reveals the cylinder (kindly "donated" by Steve) is marked L (SP) but it's only 86mm tall, SP barrels should be 86.5mm. Dodgy platers strike again, it's visably smaller than my other spare barrel (and thats an R!).
0.5mm is a lot of error, it'd actually only be .4 in situ as we used a .6mm gasket last time but that's still twice the "error" of using an SP head on an R barrel.
That, summer jetting and the cooler autum air would appear to have just been too much for it.

It gets worse, I even talked about this happening
How many of us check deck heights? Not me for one Embarassed

Although Steve assures me this barrel could still have been OK if I'd jetted it right.

Er, I'm not sure "donated" is necessarily the correct word! Laughing I think it was supposed to be a loan until you fitted your own barrel, the same way that Dave's was a loan 'til he got his replated!!

We actually had to pinch "Dave's" back off him for the Racer as we were short due to all the "loaning" going on, and the fact I killed two barrels myself last summer - once through stupidity and once through misfortune!!
