MC18 swingarm. R2J to R5K

Tue Apr 11, 2006 10:30 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hi all,
I am going to convert my MC18 R2J with a R5K swingarm and just getting some parts from Jamie (vzzzbuxt ) including the rear caliper, caliper mount and the torque arm.
Question is, neither Jamie or I can work out what the front of the toque arm attaches to as the rear of the bike he is breaking was stripped when he got it. Had a look at the parts manual and can't see it on there either.
Anyone with a R5K got a photo, or point me to the right place on the parts manual??
Cheers Ade

The torque arm fits to the inside of the frame. You can see the bolt hole in thet pic, its just above the pivot bolt.
If the R2 frame is like the MC16, it has webbing on the inside and would need stripping to gring out the web and make up a spacer.
I ended up selling my R5 arm and fitting a R2 arm to my 16 because of this problem.

Because there is no lug on the R5K swingarm there is no where to put a torque arm so yes it must be mounted to the frame. If you use an R2J arm like Jeff did then there are already mount for the caliper bracket (a bit like on your gsxr)

If you use an R2J arm like Jeff did.Too easy! Very Happy

No worries for me to do either Cool

Right!
After stripping out 16 swingarm of 16 frame tonight and fitting RK5 swingarm in it's place a couple of things i discovered,it's far easier in my opinion if your doing RK5 swingarm conversion on either an mc16 or R2J to weld similar rear brake caliper lug on swingarm! To start grinding away at the webbing inside frame is not a good idea Wink
A problem you have if like me your modding a 16 the rear wheel spindle is 17mm compared to 20mm rk5,i'm guessing r2j is 20mm also,so i can either get r2j bracket or machine 16 bracket out to 20mm i reckon theres enough meat there to do this without bracket breaking and then at least i'll be able to use my 16 rear caliper as disc size is the same Cool
cheers Rob.
