I've a MC16 which will be back on the road shortly after a rebuild. I've also a MC21 rolling chassis from which I was planning to take the front end and replace the MC16 forks. Any idea how much of a hassle this is, is it worth it or are there better options?
No Matt, it took nearly 20 minutes to do the conversion, and delegated Mr. Jason to "get the bloody kettle on... then you can hold the chassis while I do the easy bit!"!!
Steve's not even seen the 16F3 yet... or the 18F3! _________________ Andy.

Use the wider MC21 ( or an MC18/28 ) wheel, better disks, and 4-pot calipers.
You will need to carefully grind/file back the alloy lock stops on the MC16 frame as the stops on the MC21 triples are in a different location, and you end up with very limited lock.
The downside is if you grind them back too far the handlebars will interfere with the oil tank and trap your fingers, but as I have naturally dumped all that on the F3, it's of no consequence to me!
Just take a little off the stops at a time until you are happy with the compromise between lock and functionality, then stop for a beer! _________________ Andy.

Ok...thats no prob. So the tire size, stay with the original MC16 width/aspect ratio or change up to the MC21? Will this affect handling if I dont change the rear?
Well, you want to be slinging an R2J/R4J swingarm in it too, don't you?!
That's a 45 minute job, and 2 cups of tea!
You can then use the MC18 18x4" or 18x4.5" wheel (140 or 150 section tyre) or an MC21 17x4.5", or if you are a little creative, RS wheels (up to 120/160).
You're going to want at least an MC18 R2J wheel anyway, else you will have odd wheels!
MC18, MC21, and MC28 all use a 110 front tyre, so running the MC18 R2J rear wheel with a 140 tyre shouldn't upset the handling too much. _________________ Andy.

One thing to remember is by using the MC21 front end and wheel you will loose your speedo drive. But this is a cheep price to pay for the improved front end. And as Andy says, put an MC18 in the rear too.
K....good points. Now just gotta find a swing arm. As i said I have a MC21 rolling chassis but no plastic or tank or ...... would be easier maybe to look just finding a 18/21 lol Still not sure about the tea thing tho....maybe coffee
