hi,
ive just bought an mc-16 and since its been sparingly used its pretty much in stock condition..........
unfortunately the power valves have a mind of their own...........and i dont kno if the problem is wid the servo motor or somthin else.........
the vavles work somtimes n somtimes they dont............
no service manual is available n the mechanic isnt sure of the exact functioning of the motor...........
any help with regards to information related to the power valve and servo motor functioning will be appreciated.......thanks _________________ nothin like a two stroke kick up the backside..
It sounds very much to me that this is likely to be an electrical (rather than electronic) fault, as it is intermittent.
I would start by disconnecting each electrical connection in turn, and cleaning them to make sure the terminals have good conductivity and are tight. I imagine there is either a loose connection somewhere, or corrosion causing a poor electrical signal to the servo or its' controller. _________________ Andy.

thanks andy.........
i will be getting the bike checked by a different mechanic tomorrow........
he says hes worked on nsr's in the past.......so hopefully he'l kno wat to do....
in case he too isnt able to pinpoint the problem il ask him to follow the set of instructions uve given......... il keep u posted on the developments.....
thanks again for ure help ......... _________________ nothin like a two stroke kick up the backside..
hi,
i wud also like to kno how good the weather proofing of the bike is.........
im about to do an 500 mile trip and its raining plenty........
is there anything i shud be careful about/any precautions to be taken(to protect the electriacals of the bike) ?
thanks _________________ nothin like a two stroke kick up the backside..
k.......sorry i guess......
what im trying to ask is, is the nsr reliable in the rains............or is it better not to expose the bike to wet weather......... _________________ nothin like a two stroke kick up the backside..
hi,
i have also been experiencing a flat spot between 3-4g rpm.......
is this common with all mc-16's?
it seems to be missfiring at this rpm..........and the missfiring seems to disappear as the revs increase........
id like to know if there is anythin i need to get checked...........
i must admit to being a complete amatuer when it comes to bikes........
so any information on the nsr is welcomed.....
thanks _________________ nothin like a two stroke kick up the backside..
hey guys, really sorry........
the flat spot is between 4000 and 5000 rpm......not 3000 to 4000......
sorry for that........ _________________ nothin like a two stroke kick up the backside..
Any 2 stroke (especially of the age of an mc16) is not going to pull perfectly at those sort of revs and most start to cough and splutter a bit as the RC valves try to make the best of a bad job. It's also not going to pull very strongly either, I've not ridden an MC16 but Wayne's stock MC18 is a bit woolly at best.
Even my mc28 on the o.e. Honda card though superbly tractable sounds like its "missing" around the 5000 rpm mark at part throttle, try to get a go on another reasonably hot 250, it may give you a better idea of if you really have a problem or not. But it's never going to pull cleanly right from tickover at any revs and any throttle setting like a 4 stroke will. _________________ Please do not PM me technical questions, if you can't find it on the Forum start a thread
To expand on what Fontyyy says, the problem with a two stoke is that the engine ports are optimised to work at a particular rev range (generally the top) so pre power valves, you had nothing... then everything!
The powervalve introduced a way of varying the port height, and gave the engine back some mid rev power, but it was never perfect - expecially in the early days. _________________ MC21SP Plaything

thanks a lot guys, fontyyy; dave.............atleast now i know that there is no problem with the bike............
i quite like the two stroke power delivery..........the concept of nothing and then everything puts the silliest grin on my face.........
unfortunately the erratic power valves have stiffled performance to an extent........ _________________ nothin like a two stroke kick up the backside..
also,
can somebody please tell me exactly at what rpm the power valves are supposed to kick in.............
the mechanic working on my bike is not too sure.........
il be grateful for any information with regards to this...........
he says it should remain closed till a certain rpm and then open.........
and right now its opening and closing as it feels like........
could this be due to faulty or weak electricals??? _________________ nothin like a two stroke kick up the backside..
