2nd hand pistons aren't worth a penny, it's just that they tend to arrive with second hand barrels.
New rings are worth having, the piston kind of is if it's old, reusing base and head gaskets is sketchy, the bearing...maybe...the clip, may as well, they're pence...the pin, what the? No one ever has seen a piston pin fail I'm sure. _________________ Please do not PM me technical questions, if you can't find it on the Forum start a thread

Just because you have got away with it, I don't think it should be advocated.
I can show you small-end bearings and pins that have failed. I will ALWAYS advocate replacing all the components when doing a top-end rebuild after a failure. I too have re-used parts as a "quick fix" with success, but they have been replaced with new at the earliest possible opportunity.
I don't think it's good to say "it will be alright because I've got away with it", and I certainly don't agree with this policy. _________________ Andy.

I didn't say it will be alright, in fact at some undetermind time in the not too distant future I believe it certainly will not be alright.
However what is going to happen here is quite possibly the fitting of new piston, rings, pin, bearing, clip etc to a damaged barrel which strikes me as folly and a waste of money, if you're going to chuck semi damaged things togeather that's fine, it'll probably work. If you're going to buy new bits then that's fine too, it'll probably work for longer. However fitting a new pin and bearing in a damaged barrel is like locking your upstairs windows and leaving the front door wide open. _________________ Please do not PM me technical questions, if you can't find it on the Forum start a thread
