help with Tyga Chambers cant get a good seal on the Gasket
well as above i am really struggling to get a oil tight seal with these things.
I am not ordering any more honda Gaskets as they are way to expensive.
and i have just ordered some thinner after market items but i don't think they will be thick enough as the hub that bolts to the barrels will not slip inside the lip ? its too round.
i am getting close to cutting them so they will fit (i.e. make them look like the original down pipes.
i have tried exhaust paste. no good.
so what are those of you with Tyga chambers doing with them.
or are we all just letting oil drip every frickin where ?
cheers.
Keith
Hi Keith
I use high temp RTV silicone sealant on mine. I used it with second hand gaskets to seal the manifolds to the barrel and to seal the exhausts to the manifolds. No major issues with oil leakage.
The best option? Get someone to cut two grooves in the manifold that TYGA supplies, and put o-rings into those groves. That way when you slip the exhaust onto the manifold, it will create a good seal.
I have this setup on my RS, and I never get any oil mess.
Just need to find o-rings that will hold up to high temps. _________________ Charles Gallant
TZ350 Yamaha's use a Teflon ring in the same manner as you have described.
I cannot remember if the later model250 used it.
I believe that I still have some in the workshop and will measure them later today for you and post the inside and outside diameters here if it helps anyone.
Be warned that they are seriously not cheap to buy at £10 each back in 1992 when I last bought them for my old TZ350G….. God knows how much they are over 16 years later……lol
I must be missing something here as my Tygas bolt directly onto the barrel with no gasket and i get no leaks with the right amount of sealant. All i do is bolt them up tight before finally doing the expansion hanger bolts up tight! _________________ MC21 300

so tyga doesn't do the bolt on manifold that the exhaust slips onto and are held on with springs?
As for the o-rings I mentioned, it's nice as the sealant is a mess and a half to deal with. the o-rings work, have no clean up and don't need any setup time.
I actually got tired of dealing with the sealant mess on my girl friends MC21 race bike (after my fourth NSR of my own), and cut grooves in her manifolds, and put o-rings on it. worked great. _________________ Charles Gallant
Tyga pipes have the manifold stubs which bolt to the barrel using the oem gasket, I put sealant on this joint for good measure. Then the pipes slip over the manifold (as per Andy's link), they definetely dont bolt straight onto the barrel.
I did consider turning grooves for o-rings in the manifold stub but I thought the wall thickness of the stub was a bit thin for this on the Tygas.
I have had no major issues with oil leakage using sealant, nothing worse than a bellypan full of sticky oil goop! The JHA's that were on my bike when I bought it had some major leakage issues
No wonder they are hard to fit, been like that ever since i have had the bike!!! Mind you as they don't leak there is no point in spending money on gaskets.... _________________ MC21 300

had a tyga pipe on a tzr125rr 4dl i used to have and that had o ring grooves on the manifold bit that bolted to the cyclinder so don't know why the nsr ones don't??? perhaps matt at tyga is who we should be asking how to seal em?????
I'm having the same trouble as Keefer with his tyga pipes, looking at your posts paul you say that you use the thick oem copper gasket with the tyga stub manifold,if this is the case the lip on the stub manifold(which is the same thickness as the oem gasket)would not sit inside the machined part of the cylinder, and it just don't look right to me
Looking on the tyga website no copper gasket is shown on either the exhaust picture page or the 300 kit picture page and the stub manifold is.
Cheers Rob.
