can any one tell me if a early fireblade speedo will fit my mc18? The type im talking about is the early cable opperated type.
My current speedo is in kph and i fancy a mph one but also my speedo seems to be short of a few kph's as its past the 180 mark quite often and i dont know how fast im going
If you have time to look down at the speedo when you are doing over 180kph, then you are on the wrong type of road! _________________ Andy.

You can buy a speedo converter.
They screw on the back of the clocks and the gears inside change the readout into mph.
Clever eh!!!
I don't think they list for the NSR250 but most honda's are the same. Mine is off a NSR125. They cost about £30 just put in a search.
M & P sell the speedo convertors too.
As mentioned earlier, you do need the blue Honda one. Mounts up on the clock itself. The gold one is differently geared and mounts down at the bottom of the cable, so no good for the NSR. If you do fit this one it makes the speedo over-read.
I fitted one. Took the cover off the speedo and stuck the supplied Mph decal over the Kph sign on the speedo face. Gives an opportunity to give the inside a good clean too.
I`ve seen a picture of the early Blade clocks in a magazine. They do look exactly the same as the MC21 clocks to me.

Just got the bike on the road and like anyone else would be i was interested how quick the bike actually was.
Once again thanks for the advice peeps but not quite answered my question. I think i will keep an eye out for a early blade clock and try it and then i will let you all know.
The fancy smartcard electronic unit on the MC28...can it be switched to MPH?
If not whats the easiest way to get it reading KMH & MPH?
Hopefully going to be buying a 28 and the DVLA here are very picky and will want it to read both.
If not I am thinking of taping it up and mounting a borrowed speedo for the inspection. Then obviously take the fecker off and use fancy electronic thing.
I have done a search and not alot came up. _________________ Lemon owner and lover
That's a new one, and something I've never heard of before! Are the CI DVLA not using the same rule book as the UK DVLA? As far as a I am aware now, the speedo in the UK doesn't have to read MPH any more, and don't quote me on it, but I don't think you actually even have to have a speedo any more! (Although if it is there, it has to work.)
With the MC28 instruments being electronic and also a JDM model only, the only way to get it to read MPH would be via the software in the PGM-IV. I would be surprised if the MPH facility isn't built into it as I am sure they would've considered the swipe-card system for other models that would've been destined for the UK and USA etc., but hacking it is way beyond the scope of what's realistic to tinker with I think. _________________ Andy.

Basically if I question them they will go to town on the bike if and when I take it for inspection.
Had a chat with local Honda guy (very experienced with local DVLA) and he said if it cant switch between MPH and KPH then just shove another speedo on and cover up the electronic readout.
We have no daylight only MOT etc here. They wont allow it. Guernsey however do.
I dont even bother questioning them as they make up whatever they like.
Any ideas? _________________ Lemon owner and lover
It will still need to be inspected here and conform to whatever rules they have made up that day
Honda dealer will hopefully lend me the speedos they use on the CRFX's, mount it and use the magnetic pick up bolt on rear wheel and hopefully all will be good. _________________ Lemon owner and lover
I'm more than geeky enough to be interested in hacking into a PGM-IV, but if it could be done, I think fixing the ignition curve would be substantially more important than getting it to read MPH!
There are guys fiddling with them in Japan now, apparently modifying them to work with pre-coded HRC cards and resetting the odometer. I'd love to have a look around inside one for no other reason than I just can't resist breaking stuff with a laptop! _________________ Andy.
