Can't say for sure with ZXR forks (try either the 400 forum of some ZXR specific one) but NSR forks come to bits very easily.

I'd have thought the powder coat guys would want them took apart anyway Question

Get them off

Thu Nov 06, 2008 11:36 pm » Post: #3 » Download Post

If you haven't got access to an airline with ratchet get yourself down to a local garage that has one - saves rounding off any seized bolt , then you'd be in a world of pain ! Don't recommend you leave them on for powder coating and masking off - inevitably they'll get blasted or coated !!

Apart from that they will strip apart easily.

Is it L or H model you have? Or were you lucky and got an SP set Cool

Have seen this done to several NSR's here , some with 250 some with 400 USD's.

You'll need your 400's re-sprung as the dry weight of the bikes is different but the 250 is similar otherwise you wont be able to set the sag on them right. Worth wile as they will make your front end feel so "planted" Keep in mind your original ride height when setting them up hopefully your looking at only dropping them through the top bridge a few mm to get the same trail as the originals.

Recommend Yamaha fork oil for when your re-building.

Best of luck and want to see pic's of your build

Smile

not sure of the model, the seller said the bike was 1990. how do i tell the difference?
will post some pics when i get them on. just got few more bits to turn up( oil seals, bars and a mudguard) then gonna pull em apart and get the yokes and bottoms off to the powder coaters for a coat of satin black.

H model

Fri Nov 07, 2008 3:42 pm » Post: #5 » Download Post

1990 should be H2 forks.

Tops will be 50mm (same as L model) and bottom will be 52mm (L is 54mm)

I'll hunt the triple lip seals I have in the cupboard and tell you who makes them (got them from blighty).

all internals are still available and worth replacing - overhauled mine about 14 months ago and are still solid Very Happy

Just under the calliper mounting brackets if you have an adjuster they are SP model (most sought after). Callipers are 62mm spacing so MC28/21 fit straight on Cool

You can also get Tokico 6 pots that bolt on too (got on mine) and there are a few other options too....

The wheel pattern will be well off your NSR wheels so recommend you make spacers up to fit your OEM one back on, if I remember rightly the spindle is 17mm.

Do have them re-sprung though, your going to get a lot of "chatter" otherwise and high speed tank slappers Shocked , once that's sorted your going to notice how soft your rear shock is Laughing

MM!

cheers for the info. rear shocks off of a cbr of some type and is fully adjustable(with remote reservoir) so should be able to match the settings up with the forks with some fiddling! i'll check the forks over to see if they have the sp type adjusters. Very Happy

Sorry I missed this one D Embarassed

You need to go to the ZXR front page (don't want to hiss Andy off listing link) and not the forum, you'll get a link for the complete Kawasaki workshop manual Cool

Still having problems give me a shout Smile
