I need to replace all of most of the parts of my MC18's front end. I've been offered a USD front end off a RS125 (Aprilla). Is this a good idea, has anyone done this transplant?
Can I ask why you would want to do that? I wouldn't even want to put an HRC RS125 front end on a 250, let alone a 125 street bike front end!
Even the 2008 is only a single front disk and has spindly forks. You are way better off with rebuilt NSR forks, or NC29 or NC30 forks/brakes, both of which slot straight into the NSR yokes (triples). _________________ Andy.

I must admit i did think this would be the case and it doesn't help that i am a large old unit as well.Thought i would ask as the guy only wanted £50 for the lot including the wheel. Having problems sourcing a NC30 front end for sensible money so i may just rebuild the front end with new stantions from David Silvers. Thanks for the kick up the bum and getting me to see sense.
Yeah, personally I think that £50 could be much better spent on a set of new seals and some decent fork oil, and the remainder put towards some new stanchions if really needed.
There's nothing wrong with well maintained NSR forks to be honest. I have trick forks for my NSRs because (a) I'm a tart, and (b)... I'm a tart! My MC21SE forks only needed an overhaul, but at the time I managed to source a complete 1990 HRC NF5 front-end for almost nothing. The other front-ends were sourced part by part, and took years to put together. _________________ Andy.

I recon once you get the front end stripped you'll find the yolks are ok and it's just the uppers that need sorting out.
My MC18 forks are fine and the bike is so light that changing things just means you'll upset the handling which is great to start with
Once you get the forks off, have a good look at the head bearings. Mine were dried out, and for the money worth changing
Unfortunately thebottom yolk was twisted ( check photos in members builds ,project wet dog)and i think getting them straight will be too mucj of a pain so a new/secondhand set will have to be sourced
