Im a bit confused about the power output of my MC16.
In the model history page it says:
"the motor once delimited was quite capable of making 55hp".
However, in the tuning section, its stated that the Japanese speed restriction law didn't come in until 1989.
As the MC16 was produced in 1987, why is it restricted?
Also, is there an easy way I can check if mines is de-restricted or not (apart from seeing how fast it goes!) and if its not, what does it involve?
I think you'll find the history page was written long ago and is a little inaccurate.
The mc16 isn't really "restricted" at all, it's restrictions are tiny carbs and tiny ports in the barrels.
Replacing those parts with mc18 parts will get the extra power. _________________ Please do not PM me technical questions, if you can't find it on the Forum start a thread
Limited by the extremely conservative porting, the small carbs, and the exhausts. Replacing all those items with R2/4J parts will see a healthy power increase to around 55hp. To get any more you really have to consider getting inside the cases and also replacing the ignition/harness with an MC18 one too. _________________ Andy.

Good man.
Afraid I don't have the parts (or the speed) or I would offer. _________________ mc18 F3, mc21 300, mc21ish sp, mc21/28ish.

Hmm...well yes, yours might be slightly too special!
Guess I'll just keep a look out for the bits then.
I know its all relative and depends on what the buyer is willing to pay, but could you give me a ballpark figure for each of the (standard) barrels, carbs and exhausts? Just so I kind of have an idea of what to go to?
Also, I have a set of carbon end cans I got with the bike (I’ve no idea what make they are, because there are no markings on them).
Would fitting these be likely to produce any noticeable difference?
The MC16 needs more than just end cans, so apart from the additional noise (which will probably make you think you are going faster!) they won't in themselves make much of a difference.
Prices vary too much to nail it on the head. One week you could pick a pair of barrels up for £80, the next week they'll fetch £200! Depends how many people are rebuilding at the time the advert goes up!
Best bet is often Yahoo! Auctions in Japan. Barrels can go cheap on there, although the exchange rate at the moment is crap! _________________ Andy.

I thought that would probably be the case, which is why I havent bothered to fit them yet...that and the fact that they are in need of a serious clean!
I suppose the wild price ranges are the problem with rare parts!
That and ebay!
