Any info on importing NSR from japan, private sellers to australia
Theres hardly any in Australia, and obviously a lot in Japan.
Buying from a Japanese seller and converting to Aussie registration issues are my main concern i guess
its getting aussie rego for the frame that will be the problem. Best bet is to find an adr approved frame and then build it up. You maybe able to bring one in the country to 'break' aka shift all the bits over to the 'approved' frame.
Pretty much what Canuck said. Australia has it's own set of rules when it comes to vehicles and every vehicle needs to be tested and certified against them to prove that they will meet ADR compliance.
You can bypass these rules if you bring a vehicle in as a personal import. You must prove that you lived in that country of origin and owned that vehicle wihlst over there for a minimum of 12 months.
Once you go through the hassle of getting a personal import vehicle in, you'll never want ot sell it as you'll never get the financial value of it.
If you want to really buy a vehicle from Japan, then you need to source a freight forwarder, bring it over, and then source and already complianced frame to transplant all the bits into it.
It's honestly easier to just buy a vehicle that is already here in Aus, and then slowly build up the parts you need.
If you still think it is worth the financial cost and administrative hoops to jump through, good luck and let us know how you go
Easiest way is to find a complianced main frame and just move all the parts over. You may be able to sell the non-complianced frame to someone for a track bike. Check with some of the wreckers like Victorian Motorcycle Wreakers for a complianced frame. The way the ADR's are applied, getting a 2 stroke bike complied will be a hard task. I had issues in the easiest state, WA, a couple of years ago getting a clubman complied with an engine out of a 3 year old car. For a new compliance they want up to date pollution control and a 2-stroke like the NSR will struggle.
It's hard to tell with low quality photos and only two shots.
Do you know what the differences are between all three types of models?
I'd hazard a guess and say it's either an R or an SE, but you'll need more photos to show further detail, and even then parts may have been swapped onto it to bring it up to an SE model specification.
You can never be certain what your getting from a few poor quality photos.
And even if its a good quality pic, and the bike looks right cosmetically, you don't know what the engine will be like. See my problem

But back to the outside of the bike. From those pictures the bike is definitely not as a Rothmans MC21SP left the factory.
The forks are dark, the brake disc rotors are gold (should be silver) and there is no bum pad on the underseat box panel. As for the wheels, it looks like a Magtek front, it has the flush side rim / no lip, but its the wrong colour. The rear is the correct colour but looks like standard rim (can you see the lip just against the tyre?). It may be a genuine 21SP Rothmans, but with some parts from a different model, or it could be an R / SE or other year SP with Rothmans bodywork, which at least looks correct. This pic may help you compare.
And when I got mine, it had the wrong colour front indicators, no HRC stickers on the side and the wrong SP sticker on the rear light panel. So who knows!!
Good luck with finding the right NSR for you. If you can, try to find a bike you can view in the flesh before buying. _________________ Rich

You'll have a pretty hard time getting it registered here - re-read the advice from above nxrsr20 and canuck13. All the information for importing vehicles into Oz can be located on the relevant government websites. If you have a look at them, you'll see you have to jump through a LOT of hoops - it's pretty depressing really (even for a race only bike).
And even if you succeed - it'll be a bit of a lottery as to what eventually ends up on your door as Andy has said above.
I entertained this thought myself, but your much better off just being patient - they are unusual nowdays, but not rare, and come up for sale freqently. I have seen 4 for sale in the last few weeks. Wait, save money, and get the right one.
Regards
Scott
Hey Scott, good to see you online, I still gotta head up your way soon to check out your harem of NSRs
Back on topic:
There are importing specialists that can do the job, but again think $$$. If you try and import something yourself, be prepared to do a lot of the hard work and I have heard of customs being really really picky, they don't even like mud on tyres!
If you do import something, think components, and try to get them to mark them as "gifts"
Hi Mate
Was looking around the other night found http://www.importmonster.com.au/ You buy of japan auctions then they will ship and import licence for $990 ,Then get complianced frame swap parts easy rego done.
