I'm hoping to finish installation of the HRC wiring loom this weekend.
I'd like to keep the 2T oil injector (for now at least). Obviously there is no provision in the loom for this.
Has anyone ever run a HRC loom and 2T injector? If so, was it run with the solenoid with no electrical input, or was some other feed used?
A search of the forum seems to confirm the role of the pump solenoid is to open when the ignition is switched on, to provide a higher dose of oil for start-up. Is that accurate?
Thanks. _________________ Rich

Thats what I've always though but never tried it. When ever I've run a SS/SP HRC harness I've always removed the pump. _________________ If I have to take the carbs off once more...
i ran mine with the oil pump rich and ran it with solenoid with no electric imput and had no problams _________________ ive seen more tarts than mr kipling
It would be interesting to stick a multimeter on the pump next time a bike with oil injection is on the dyno, and do one of your famous "ride-out" runs Steve. I have a feeling that it's not "cold enrichment", but possibly something connected with RPM for slow speed and load.
I don't think there would be any adverse problems with running a pump with an HRC harness, but would prefer to know exactly when the pump was getting a signal from the PGM to try and understand exactly what it's supposed to be doing. _________________ Andy.

i suppose thinking about it that must be it, high revs, closed throttle, dont think you'd want more oil when starting up, i think they run quite rich standard. cant be anything too complex hey, as the pgm is not that advanced, just a basic signal input just as the tps and revs? just a guess
Don't think you will find many that would let me do one of "those" runs with their bikes anyway lol. _________________ If I have to take the carbs off once more...
As I said on Tuesday Rich, anyone who's run a wire-spliced or HRC loomed '28 on the pump has run without the solenoid, mine was fine. _________________ Please do not PM me technical questions, if you can't find it on the Forum start a thread
If that's how it works! That's why I'd like to clip a meter to the feed to see just exactly when it's live. More out of interest than concern I might add though. I certainly wouldn't expect the feed to be variable; just on or off, and most likely just +12V, so no need to complicate things with a resistor.
We all know that 2-strokes are only working efficiently over a narrow rev range (although the NSR's rev range is a lot wider than most! ) so this is why I'm not sure if it's just as simple as pumping more oil in when cold. This is when the plugs are already most likely to load up and wouldn't be surprised if the excess smoke when cold is more down to operating temperature than oil pump setting. _________________ Andy.

I know how the pump works, what I mean is how the "system" works. One wire into the solenoid however would indicate that it's on or off - it is just a switch, all said and done. A solenoid is hardly the pinnicle of engineering, and we are talking about something from the eighties!
I would be amazed if there was anything variable about the solenoid side of the pump. The variable part is taken care of by the throttle opening (pulley on the top) and the rpm (drive gear on the bottom). I still expect the solenoid to switch on and off depending on fixed parameters within the PGM... I don't know what they are, but would like to know. _________________ Andy.
