I have an 86 ns250r which has been a project for a while, i have just replaced the carbs, one coil and the spark plugs. it ran fine for a couple days and then tonight only stated on 1 cyl, i left it while i was putting gear on and it started the 2nd fairly quickly. took it for a ride and it was very sluggish, like it had no power band at all. then when i was going from 2nd to 3rd it stalled. so i clutched in and tried to start it in 1st when i got a bit slower which worked fine. then a bit later at an intersection it did it and then it wouldn't start with the kick until i opened the throttle and gave it a few kicks (i guessed it was flooded). it went sluggish like it was before, then when i was almost home it did it again and i tried starting it like i did before and it wouldn't, it locked the back wheel. when i tried to kick it over the kick wouldn't go down like the engine was seized, i got off and wheeled it a bit then tried again and the kick was back to normal, and it started after a few kicks. when i got it home i thought maybe the idle had dropped low for some reason so i turned it up a bit and it jumped form about 1700rpm up to over 3.5k and wouldn't sit any where in between, it was also fluctuating at idle. the temp was quite high (not in the red or anything just a bit above the middle of the gauge). since i got it running a few days ago it hasn't really sounded in tune, but i cant afford to have someone do a good job of it. so was just putting it off until i can. the spark plugs i have a 7's so they are quite cold, i did this because the 9's were not starting the bottom cyl but some 6's i had lying around would. (don't know why)
I have tried not to leave anything out but i may have.
any help would be great because this one has me stumped the symptoms point to different things in my head. i will let you know if it seizes overnight.
oh and i took the front plug out and it looked very warn for having only done 100km it was brownish on the top no oil or anything though. normally i wouldn't think anything of it except that its only 3 days old.

ok an update already
i just went and kicked it over and it started 1st kick, (is cold) but i couldn't see any smoke from the pipes at all (it is dark though and i was using outside lights) could all of these be caused by it not oiling its self?

maybe so. but if so then you might have just did more damage to it by riding it when the first symptoms started.
when the the engine wont kick over while its hot then it will when it cold you know you have siezed it slightly. _________________ feel the wind

from when it wouldn't kick over and when it did normally it was less than one minute (all i did was tern it around in the street) so it was still hot (it may have been something stupid like i left it in gear of course) it did cross my mind it may have seized but because it kicked over so easily so soon i thought it probably wasn't that. also when i got it home and it stalled while i was adjusting the idle it started again fairly easily i might be wrong though i have been known to do stupid things in the past lol

I put about 100 to 1 2 stoke oil in the tank this morning and it started 2nd kick . initially there was a slapping sound from the bottom cylinder but that went away after about the time the fuel in the carby lasts. the idle was very low like 1200rpm but i left it and then every time i put it in gear it would stall so i adjusted the clutch and uped the idle again to around 1700 and it went ok still lacking in power though. when i started it there was no smoke form the bottom cyl but the pipe was warm to touch. so i let it warm up a bit and took it down the street. it cooled down reasonably quickly (it always dose for what ever reason) it was lacking in power still particularly in the power band, so i adjusted the clutch back again and it was better, still not what it should be but closer. i went maybe 2km just around the block a couple times. when i got back both cylinders were smoking the normal amount. however just before i got back home maybe 300m i got a sound kind of like a very quite turbo spooling or when break pads are just slightly on, not a squeak or sequel just a quiet whistle, when i got home and let it idle (after resetting it again) it went away and didn't come back when i revd it. also at intersections the revs take ages to drop and wont go below about 3.5k. sometimes they don't even drop to 4k. the idle still wont sit between 1700 and 3500, is this to do with the idle and main carb jets?
also i notest that the carb (well something above the cylinder and below the tank) is leaking i cant tell where from it looks like it is fuel with oil, wouldn't this have to be after the oil injector in the mani to leak that?

well to be sure if it is siezed take a look up the exaust or just stick your finger in the plug hole and see if you got compression by cranking it over by hand or use a proper guage. its either a carburator porblem or your seized should be one of the 2.
when you try to start it you said it wont start because of in gear and stuck to the back wheel. so you could still kick it over right?
Because i dont ride as often anymore and sometime the bike sits in the garage for one month at a time so the clutch sticks and battery dies. but what i am trying to say is while in gear i can still kick it over easy but the bike will move forward with every kick. _________________ feel the wind
thanks for that i checked it still has compression. so i guess its the carb. when i start i always hold the front brake just out of habit. so na it wouldn't tern over if i had the clutch out. like i said it was just a thought i may have don't that although i usually put the clutch in even when starting in neutral.
