Gday guys, went to start my bike after a month of non-use and the kick starter is locked. I've stripped her down a little and pulled the spark plug out of the bottom cylinder and fuel pissed out everywhere. Without the plug the kick starter will work normally, but fuel keeps on pouring out. If i replace the plug she locks up again.
I have removed the tank (tap is working properly), but there is still fuel in the cylinder even after a good 20 kicks to pump the fuel out. Im not sure if its just from over flooding the engine (last time i ran her my leg almost fell off from kicking just to start), or if it could be carby related or something more severe.
Looks like an mc16 engine in a mc21 frame if that helps, on initial inspection of the carby all looks normal, without opening it right up cuz like a few other members im scared i'll never get it back together again!
Any ideas on what it could be or where i go from here to try and solve the problem?
It sounds like your fuel tap is not working and your float heights aren't setup right....as a minimum.
What's happened is that you're fuel tap let your whole tank of petrol draing through into your carbies. Your carbuerettors did not seal properly so your petrol then overflowed into your cylinders, leaked past your pistons and into your exhausts. I'm sure if you took your exhausts off and tipped them up, fuel would drain out.
Check/sort out those issues first, fresh plugs and fresh fuel and then see how you go from there. Where abouts in Aus are you from?
What makes u think it`s a mc16 engine not a straight swap all nsr motors are marked mc16- . I suggest u look through the tunning section and other sections you will learn a lot about them and how to work on them.
To your prob i`d take carbs of clean them search forum there is a complete guide been posted before , Check your fuel tap ,
Thank you for the speedy reply.. First of all i am in SA (Adelaide), secondly, I just dropped the lower exhaust and yes it was completely full of fuel. I have drained it all out and i will check the tank tap in the morning... I hope that is all it is.
You want to clean the float needles and seats, and check the float heights. I rarely turn my fuel tap off, as I always forget to turn it back on when I set off, and it never floods the crankcases.
If the seats and/or needles are worn it will never seal properly, and will cause problems even with the motor running. You can clean the seats up with a little Brasso on a small Q-tip, but if the needles are worn you'll need new ones. _________________ Andy.

I have just taken the carbs apart and the needles all look fine. The jets are clean and un-blocked. Just a question about the float height though. When the carby is resting at 90 degrees there is alot of play before the needle even moves. I'm not sure if I am missing a spring somewhere or if the little needle thingys are supposed to just hang there freely.
The needle has a loop on top of it that hangs on the float. There is about 2mm of play when it hangs there. The way it looks now it doesn't matter if it's set to 13mm or 15mm (current), the actual needle sits at the same height and doesn't move.
After looking at the parts manual, the valve set float 3 shows 2 items. I am guessing this is the needle and possibly a spring? Can someone just verify there is meant to be a spring as well.
I just can't believe that I am missing bits in there!!
the little spring loaded pin in the top of the float needle has probably just stuck in, prize them up and spay them with wd40 and work them up and down till they're free.
It's not a coil spring, more a square shape made of a springy metal. _________________ MC21SP Plaything

I think i may have found the problem.. the rubber insulator carb (5) had a cut pipe where the overflow bulbs? (orange thingys) sit. One was sealed properly, the other was loose and just resting there. If air was leaking through there, i am guessing that there wouldnt be a vaccum seal and the petrol would leak into the carb and flood through... Does this sound like a possibility?
