Photos needed of underseat area on MC21 racebikes

Sun Aug 30, 2009 3:44 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

I'm building a track bike from a street MC21 and would like to eliminate the inner fender. Actually I just want to lose the license plate portion but don't want to chop it, so the entire inner fender must be removed in order to save it. What do those of you with racebikes do in this area? Have you chopped fenders or built shelves from plastic or aluminum? Photos would really help me out.

Thanks for any help you can provide....

Craig,

If your using the stock ssub frame, you can get some aluminum sheet and build an inner fender from that.

I did one many years ago for my first NSR, but that was well before digital camera's were big, so I don't have a picture of it.

You need to make a battery box, as well as a couple brackets for the wiring harness components. Just cut, bend and drill based on the existing inner fender and you will be alright.

Or make a fibreglass one by using the standard fender as a mould.

The original reflector is still there and looks quite gay.

There should be plenty of standard plastic ones kicking about from all those TYGA conversions... Just see if you can pick one up and then hack the license plate holder off (if it still has one)!

To be honest, the standard one doesn't weigh much, has all the bits you need (i.e. a battery box, a PGM-III tray, and some holders for the wiring harness plugs), and fits like a glove!

I know what you mean; it's so tempting not to get the cutter out and whack off what's already there!

If you've got an unmolested one, keep it for the Rothmans... if you don't, then keep the best one (if you have two) for it!

I'd use a stock undertray on a racer with the surplus bits hacked off myself. It's hard to keep things much tidier than Honda did.
