Hi everyone. Im looking for a rear shock off a MC21. Im told this can be fitted onto a MC18 to increase rear ride hight. Can anyone help me?

i have a 21 rear shock for sale it is from a r model (will have a sp unit as well shortly)
dont now if it will fit an 18
but i am sure andy will reply with the answer to that shortly

Thanks Nigel, Im told a 21 shock will fit into an 18 (its alittle longer so i beleave but i dont know by how much) an SP unit would be great tho. Mines only an MC18R5k and an R model but i like the rear of my bikes to be pretty high and im pretty big so the adjustability of an SP unit woudl be perfect. Heck, if Andy if going to put us all straight, maybe he can chime in about a VFR400RR shock working on a NSR250.

I have a fully adjustable VFR400RR Showa shock. It looks just like the NSR250R SP shock, but I am not sure if it will fit on the NSR250.

Andy, any insight on this?

If it does work, then it's for sale, as it's an extra unit, just collecting dust.

I can tell you that the MC18 rear shock dimensions differ significantly from the MC21/MC28 units, and that I've also never heard of anyone trying to fit (let alone successfully fitting) a later shock to an '18!

I have some HRC F3 diagrams for new linkage plates however, that will raise the standard setup a little, and will post them on the Messageboard this evening if I can find them!

The NC30 shock is extremely similar to the MC28, but with a harder spring/damping I believe (due to the VFR's unsprung weight) but I have not personally tried to fit one to an NSR.

I would've thought it would be a perfect excuse for Charles to get out into the garage and measure his NC30 shock against his MC21 road-bike AND his MC28 race-bike shocks, allowing you to then compare the measurements to your MC18!
