back in the day, we would take a metal file to the edges of new tires to clean off release agent used to release tire from mold. Supposedly this release agent was slippery and at first high lean angle ran the risk of sliding out. Is this still the way to do it?
yes, i'm an old guy. no i'm not real computer literate. but i did a search on tires and did not find a thread on this subject. and yes, this is the bike i always wanted but could not afford.
No, no need for this. I wouldn't go WFO into the first corner, but no need to "prep" tires.
most modern day tires are good to go out of the box. Just get them warmed up to operating temps before really pushing them. And that should be the case for each ride.
New tires can definitely be slippery. You would be well advised to be careful of max lean angles until they are scuffed in. I have a friend in a cast from that very thing not two weeks ago.
I think it's one of those "who do you belive" things. I used to race with a guy who'd get a battery drill and sanding disk to his new tyres before he hit the startline.
Ironically he was such a crazy rider he's often hit the deck anyway.
Some people swear the swerving you do as you roll to the grid warms you tyres. Others say that's crap and the only way to heat them properly is max acceleration and braking a few times on the siting lap. (assuming you've used tyre warmers of course)
