This just another new NSR fan. I just acquired an '92 SE and, as an ex-YPVS, I can only confirm that this IS the bike.
For the statistics, it is a prospec '92 SE red-white with wet clutch, or maybe an R model with adjustable suspensions and SE bodywork... In any case, I can not be more delighted with the bike.
So, the first thing I did when spotted the bike was become a member of this great community. Then, buy the bike, test it and get new tyres. I've run it for about 200 km and thought, well if this is a restricted bike, how will it be when unrestricted? It pulls real hard in every gear. However, it would not rev higher than 11k or accelerate above 180 kph. The revving is stopped suddenly at 11k in any gear.
Yesterday I went through the wire splice routine as described in this site (both spices). Almost burnt all wire insulation with the heat! With the bike stopped tested that all gears would work so there I went.
Now, this is my personal feeling. I can not be measure performance, but it now feels as if there is less torque in the midrange. It now goes above 180 kph but keeps stalling at 11k in 5th. My memory tells me that before splicing the wires, the engine was easier on reaching top rpms in 6th. Could this be true or is it my own impression?
In any case, great bike, great site. As a beginner in the NSR world I hope one day I can make a contribution to it.
By the way, are the gearboxes cluncky or is it only mine? It looks like it needs clutch cable adjustment and chain tensioning.
Here's a pic. Not mint, but very good state, only minor local scratches here and there.
Welcome along, that looks in great condition! _________________ MC21SP Plaything

well, I'm 8 and 3/4, like Adrian. My dad doesn't know I ride the NSR, chat on the net or look at mags with NICEpics, but he can not blame me as he does the same!
My gearbox was quite clunky too until I changed the oil today.... Feels much better now so if you're not sure just change it. Easy 10 min job and the gearbox will love you for it.

Thanks for the tip. I just bought the bike and I was told oil was new. In any case, I'll re-check. How do you check oil level? I opened the fill-in cap, I expected a dipstick or something, but only found a threaded cap. Hpwever, the oil looked like new, very transparent.

There is a dipstick, but it is tiny - about 5mm long. Have another look at the underside of the cap. _________________ MC21SP Plaything

The belt is orange, and his elder brother has a green one. They love it and we are just starting to attend a few competitions. Are you on this sport as well?
My plan with the bike is:
- fit new tyres. Done
- wire splices. Done. How can I know if it worked? As I said, bike runs OK in all gears but it seems to hit a wall just after 11k. I expected that it'd have some kind of over revving capability. However, i've seen 190 kph+ so that means something, doesn't it? When doing the splice, I saw that the orange wire had been manipulated, it had a welded piece. But the black wire was untouched, as were the GPS wires.
- adjust suspensions, specially front end. I feel as if I had to brake really hard, the front wheel would block. There seems to be very little progression on the front fork.
- enter a track and test performance.
- if possible, do a dyno run. From there, decide if re-jet/mod airbox,... I pretend to run the bike as stock as possible, but "To gain full OEM power on the MC21" as the tunning section says. This should take me to the 50+ hp.
My mate has a RGV, so the comparison will say if I need new exhausts!
Hello, Dave ett
Thanks for the info. I thought the dipstick was broken, but if it is only 5 mm, then it's all there. Surprising bike!
Yes, I have all the oil in and as I said, it looks very new, kind of transparent. What I did is move the clutch lever to the left as much as I could in order to gain maximum lever play. Its raining today, so I can not test. Will update as soon as possible.
