free flow air filters

Mon Aug 23, 2010 7:11 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Just wandering which would be the best solution for street bike if you guys have played with combinations on dyno...

My mc21 has a cutt out lid like tyga+ holes on top.

Inside i have fitted an unknown free flow filter element that has been cutted to fit exactly like stock.

I was thinking which would be better:

1) fit daytona free flow? is it avalaible?

2) buy universal foam filter and cut to fit? is there a good maker selling a piece to cut?

3) fit a good maker's free flow foam pod filters inside the airbox?

all sugestions welcome!

When cutting out the airbox lid and upgrading to a free flow filter (looking forward to the responses on this one), does it require rejetting, carb work etc? Or can it just be fitted?

Thanks

Some do, some don't, every bike is different, and people modify the airboxes in different ways, so there are limitless possibilities.

You'd be mad not to check the jetting after any engine, exhaust, or carburetion modification.

The first post with a jet size mentioned in this thread gets it locked! Laughing

Because that's the rules!

There's a section in the Members Area for jetting discussion.

There is a place in the supporting members area to discuss jetting.

ofcource, you must be a supporting member to disguss jetting otherwise Rolling Eyes

Whatever, the subject is about filters not jetting sizes.

whatsoever if someone likes can search older posts and get his answer.

I will be a supporting member cause i want to help the site not because some gourou will smell my bike from distance and give me jett settings.

Don't take it personally... it's been a rule for years!

It's just that now there's a place for it in the Members section too, and the Members do pay a subscription. It is not fair on those people to discuss topics that they have (amongst other things) subscribed for. This includes jetting, HRC support, and also non-NSR/non-bike related content.

Well, it's debatable that a Daytona filter will be any more free-flowing than what you have already, so personally I doubt I would bother investing in one unless what you have is damaged. They are still available though, as Grant says.

Fitting pods filters inside the stock (but modified) airbox, I would say, is a bad idea. The stock airbox is rather small at the best of times, and I would expect the sides of the filters to touch the the airbox. I doubt that will do you any favours!

You could fit pod filters inside an HRC "airbox". The HRC item is actually a carburettor shield designed to promote still air around the carbs, and is pretty much the same size as the whole area behind and above the carbs. Plenty of room for air to circulate around the pods. Fit the largest pods you can!

I use uni filter foam which i cut to size and oil with air filter oil.

Seems to work ok for me. The foam itself it courser than the factory foam filter, so i guess it flows better. I would NOT advise using it with out oil though.

I never oil my road bike fitlers .I do not think there is any use in doing it as you don`t have the dust and dirt you get on dirt bikes and the oil will only restrict the airflow a bit .
