Hi all,
finally got some time for the NSR after fixing my stolen/recovered VFR..
I have the 'leaking 2T into gearbox' bug - is this the seal I need to reseat/replace? I'd hate to bin that much Motul 2T and synth oil again..
cheers
Give the seal and its' seat a good de-greasing and then apply a thin smear of sealant and press it back into place.
If you are confident enough, and a good shot, you can punch the outer rim with a dot punch to help hold the seal in place, but the sealer will usually do it unless you are really unlucky!! _________________ Andy.

Ha! Erics is a real nice bike..
First a public thanks to Andy for the help/advice.. I'd be proper *ucked without this site and the people on it - Canada is a bit backward regarding 2 strokes!
I'm in North Van - Mine's a 1990 MC21R model.. a bit of a work in progress.. Carly the g/f rather impolitely mentioned how she thought by the time it's done I could have bought a Ducati...
PoshFirm de-restrictor, Renthal sprocket
SP forks (in the post), Airbox mod, custom ex racing cans from Rick at RP Racing, HRC Reeds/Spacers/Stuffers in the post( thanks Jaimie), hugger and screen from Matt at TYGA, and shedloads of ebay stuff.. Eventually gonna do the TYGA GP 500 tail with the Suzuka lights and paint it like Bill Limbs' Honda Britain/Joey Dunlop...
For now it's original like this -
PM me for local contact deets - there's another MC21 in Chiliwack, and a guy's just getting his paperwork together for a HK import of another.
Sound really nice, I have done GP tail last year and my new Suzuka fairing is at the body shop being painted. It's a very sharp look when it's done. You must have bought my old forks ? _________________
I DIDN'T have the oil leaking into the gearbox problem, but I just took my oil pump off and bled it and my seal was loose as well. It came out when I removed the spindle to see which way thr thread went, and hence which way to turn it to pump oil. Does this mean I now DO have the problem??
Have I got to go back and seal in the seal?
After it took me so long to bleed the damn thing ... grrr! I can't believe there's nothing holding the seal in place. _________________ MC28 SE -sold-

I think it's one of those problems you don't have until you go to check **** oil one day and there's about 3 times as much as when you left!
My seal has gone hard, and doesn't seem to want to stay in place. A bit of silicone would probably do it, but there's a bearing manufacturer here who thinks he has one. If I get hold of some I'll shout here on the boards. It seems top be an odd size at 9.5*1.6*4
Any good liquid gasket will do the job. it's more to act like an adhesive than to seal anything. I'd use Blue Hylomar here in the UK. I'm sure someone will be able to tell you an equivalent in the US. _________________ Andy.

It's actually the same gizz as used by Honda, Yam, Suzi and Kawasaki in the factory for engine assembly.
Yamaha tried to sell me their version of is at £75 a tube
The Honda gizz was about the same price but Kwak and Suzi branded stuff is only £12 a pop and there's enough to do 30 / 40 engines in a tube.
It's a semi-elastic bonding gel and is easy to use. It's got special temperature tollerant qualities and - this might make you laugh - Yamaha UK told me that their engines needed this stuff to allow heat transfer across the casing joints to be effective.
If you want some - order Suzuki part number TB1104
