I have emailed them about it, pointing out it is over full retail price for the bike etc to no avail they just say it's very rare (there were only 1500 ever?) and there is not much margin in it for them anyway so they may come down a bit but not enough to make you think it's a bargain.
TBF I've wanted a '28 since I first saw one and this is probably the prettiest one I've ever seen and this post is probably just me trying to talk myself into what I know in my head is financially a bad deal.
Then again was buying a 2/ motorbike ever a financially sound move? _________________ Please do not PM me technical questions, if you can't find it on the Forum start a thread
So Fontyyy, you want to spend that much money on a bike thats been down the road, been repainted badly (overspray on the foam etc), got a huge chunk outta the swinging arm and has aftermarket footrest cos who ever did it couldnt aford new stock ones.. and is over priced? I think you'd be better off importing one yourself or just keep looking. Plus youre gonna have to spend some money on it to get any go out of it as its a 28. Thats just my opinion though lol _________________ If I have to take the carbs off once more...
maybe not just down the road.. only reason I ever saw wired oil caps is for the track..
It's not totally original, and the gouge from the crash is always going to be there.. IMHO I'd keep looking.. For that kind of money you could fly to Japan and find one yourself!
you could buy a nice 21 for the £1700 they want on top of your bike( i know its a 28 you want)take a holiday to japan and for £5k you could get a 18,21 and 28.
My point was more "is it a good bike or a right bag of nails?" that they would warrantee it for 12 month unlimited miles must be worth quite a bit and must say it's not about to let go (in their opinion), how much would you want to do that to an NSR with a wired oil cap?
And it's clearly NOT been raced, wheres the lockwired brakes and sump? If it's been on the track so what? If not I'll soon fix that, it's what it was built for
How many of us would buy it if it was only £2000?
If that would change your opinion then you are worrying about a couple of months wages and an amount of money which will be insignificant over the years.
When I was a bit younger I had a mk2 Escort, spent a fortune on it over the years (about £8k) then swapped it for a mk1 Escort Mexico, spent about the same on that (at least ) and sold it for .............. £800. But I wouldn't do it different again if I could. I had a good time.
I do hear what your all saying and you're totally correct, then again the guy with the brand new CBR600rr who tells all of us grey sports bike fiends to get a grip and buy something new is totally correct as well. _________________ Please do not PM me technical questions, if you can't find it on the Forum start a thread
And to add to this, for that money I'd want it still in it's crate with tiny Honda engineers fingerprints still on it... The problem is you're like me and when you see something you want, you have to have it NOW. I've fortunately learned to wait now, and you could find a mint 28sp for under £3000 if you hand on... Probably within 3-6 months as there are always ones going... _________________ NSR300R - Why did i ever have a 250...
BUT.........not a limited to 1500 MC28 SP Rothmans Rep.
whatever way you look at it this is the rarest of rare, if i had the cash and i would buy it, only if the wireing is stock but i would buy it.
swing arm and rearsets can be replaced, overspray can be cleaned up, at the end of the day if you have bought or own a grey import it has been on its side....cos its part of their test
go with your gut mate, like i say if it was me and i had the cash it would be mine. _________________ MC21SP - Roth-tax

well its clear to me that you WANT this bike. so get your ass down to bristol and have a good look at it and a test ride. if its still the bike of your dreams then buy the sucker.
you could sell your 400 and turn up with cash and try for a deal. at the end of the day i don't think its gonna be jumping out of the showroom too soon.
it is a very bad deal, but if you can live with it and the bikes not an out and out dog go for it.
If you are buying the bike because it is an original SP and you are thinking about restoring it, forget it. I'm sure you can buy one in much better condition for the same price if you waited. It's not like it's a rare NR750 or something. I'm sure if you were offerring that type of cash + the amount it would cost you to restore it, there might be 1 or 2 people that might sell their MC28 to you.
I was desperately looking for one myself. I found one in excellent condition but after doing some snooping around it was actually a MC28SE. I checked the paint code in the subframe and it just didn't check out. However, in the end I bought it because it had all the SP parts: Magteks, front suspension and original SP bodywork. The other reason I purchased it was I modified it: jHa pipes, Ohlins suspension, RVF front end, etc... Now, I think you'll find once you buy an MC28 you'll want to modify it because there are so many trick parts available. You wouldn't want to do that to a SP would you? But then again, you're missing one of the best things about owning one and that's customizing it. My 2 cents.
Oh, btw, there is a collector in HK that has an original Rothman's SP he might sell for $7500USD. Immaculate condition and under 10000km. So they are out there.
$7500 is still 4 grand and mint of not it's not here nor is it guaranteed for a year.
I'm not that bothered about "restoring it" as such, obviously king for resale value is for it to be original again but most mods can be undone (check my RVF link) and the fact that it has been sprayed at all must devalue it a bit in respect of it being original, no matter how good the job is (or isn't).
And of course I'd modify it for my own use, pipes, cans, and some NICE rearsets as opposed to the $5 items on it and the wire splice and HRC card when it's out of guarantee I guess would be the obvious route, some other bodywork may give me some piece of mind on the track too.
I can't believe all the negative talk, does anyone really think this is such a vast amount of money? I've got several friends with mountain bikes they throw down the Alps that cost more......... _________________ Please do not PM me technical questions, if you can't find it on the Forum start a thread
well if four grand is pocket money for you, go and buy it, what the problem.
if its the bike you want, and you think its a good deal then go do it. its what you want that matters. i,ve spent 100,s of pounds on my MC16 putting on 21 forks, 18 swinging arm etc. a lot of people ( dave ett) think i,m mad, but its what i wanted to do.
its your choice mate, either go down this weekend and buy it. or forget about it and wait for another one to come along. but will that one be any better.
as i said before go and look at it and ride it. if you still want it BUY IT. if it goes tits up you can say i told you to do it

It's not exactly "pocket money" to me, but I've wasted more on far sillier things, BMX's, mountain bikes, 25 year old Escorts, 16 year old girlfriends etc.
And the "problem" is 10 people out of 10 (NSRMonkey said "buy it" and he doesn't count 'cause he just wants to nick bits off it) said don't buy it. Including some people who've got quite a collection of expensive bikes. That's a bad ratio amongst those who know what these things are especially as (according to Jamie from Jamies NSR Homepage) the price is about right for one IN JAPAN!
And I'm pretty sure if (when? it is a 2 stroke after all) it did go tits up this thread will be found and bought back up, all in good humour I hope _________________ Please do not PM me technical questions, if you can't find it on the Forum start a thread
