What is the importance of aligning these marks. I have just put a new crank in and aligned the primary gear fo the crank spot. Then put the secondary gear and clutch basket on a also aligned that. What I don't understand is whay you have to do that when the timing is on the flywheel end and is set by the woodruff key position.
A new OEM crank and the primary gear could be balanced from the factory, so it is advised to align the white dots.
The clutch basket in the photo on the Engine Rebuild: page 2 has been inverted so you can see the mark, but on reflection there wasn't any need to do this. It's the only photo I have though, so it's stayed put! _________________ Andy.

Yes, it was included in the rubuild text in case of factory balancing, which is often the case when you see assembly marks inside a motor.
It's not always a certainty, but it does no harm to align them as the factory would upon assembly.
Unlike some of the less well designed 90° V-twins, the NSR250 doesn't need a balancing shaft, so I would always recommend using the marks just in case! _________________ Andy.
