Hi all new to this forum and new to nsr's iv'e just bought a mc21 with 5301km on the clock, it gets delivered in 3-4 weeks because of registering it's suppose to be mint iv'e seen pictures and it does look like new, my question is what are the things to look for when it does arrive
iv'e read alot about power valves going wrong on this forum, is this something to check as soon as is turns up before the delivery driver leaves it is from a well known importer so if anything is wrong i wont pay for it is there anything that goes wrong all the time? i usualy don't buy without seeing but it was 4hr away so i have to take the sellers word for it when it turns up i have tried to put some pictures of it on this site to let you all see it see what you all think but im rubbish with computers and can't do it
Hi tom tom, if its a red and white 21r from Bridgemoto, ive seen it, a real nice clean bike, stonking bodywork and runs like a dream. Dont think youll have much trouble with that one, if it is that one of course!! _________________ Proud Father of , 05 ktm 400exc supermoto 2018 honda crf rx supermoto
I bought my NSR from Bridgemoto and the crank seized after a few hundred miles. This is not a slur on Bridgemoto at all. Spencer is a great guy to deal with and he sells nice straight bikes. What I am saying is that you are buying a 20 year old machine that has most likely stood for years doing nothing. Spencer will get it running and get it through it's MOT, but be prepared to remove the barrels and grease the powervalves. Check the rings etc and maaybe even replace the crank seals. Bridgemoto are great guys, but thatt is no gaurantee that your fragile old stroker will last another 200,000 miles
Be prepared for a bit of spannering and you will have a rewarding bike.
Hi yes it is, it does look like new in the pictures, is it as nice in real life as in pictures? do you know if ther is anything i should be checking when it does arrive, im sure all will be well they seem to know there stuff and are very helpfull, im just a bit worried because as a rule i don't buy without seeing but looked so clean thought it was worh a chance
thanks
Hi do you think all that would be needed with only 5000km on the clock thats about 3000miles i think, hope im going to get a good couple of thousand mile before i start messing
I saw that one when I bought the one I did. It was more expensive than the one I got and the fairing panels were in much nicer shape than mine. There was some pitting on the forks and end cans. It looked like it had stood for some time. I am sure that is all cleaned up now though. Remember, a mint bike will go for 4K+ from a dealer, so you can't expect concourse condition. It is pretty nice though and will clean up a treat.
Be prepared to get the spanners out though. Evven a brand new crank will only get you 10-20K before it goes tight.
You might be fine. I was talking to one of the guys off this forum at a bike meet the other week and he told me he has never had the airbox off his MC28 in all the years he has owned it. However, you are buying a highly tuned biike that is 20 years old. Let's hope you have no issues, but be prepared for spannering, that's all I am trying to say.
hope so i was undiced between 350lc or the mc21 but thought for a little bit more than i was going to pay for an lc i could have the mc21 well fingers crossed all will be good it's too late to change my mind now.i am quite good with the spanners but would like not have to.
Dont worry, youll be surprised when you see it, ive seen most of Spencers bikes over the last year or so and this one is now one of the cleanest ive seen go out the shop, i have heard it running several times and shes as sweet as a nut. Ride it and enjoy it now. Let us know what you think when she arrives. _________________ Proud Father of , 05 ktm 400exc supermoto 2018 honda crf rx supermoto
thanks for that i think i should stop reading problems people are having with there bikes im only winding myself up,spencer said it was as clean as looked reason i went for that bike is that it's only done 3000 miles ish so thought / hopped i would be reliable for a while hope so anyway.
First up would be to pony up some cash to Andy for access to the English versions of the workshop manuals. Read through the first chapter till you get to page 21, and go over the lubrication points. After that, start on the maintenance chapter.
It's quite cheap to fix up problems before they take other parts with them. Afterwards, not so much.

The concern is not that it's done 3000 miles, the concern is that it's possibly sat untouched in a container in Japan for the last 15 years or more, frozen then thawed out numerous times and any rubber seals (including the crank seals) could well have dried out, cracked and/or perished.
What happens now is when it's fired it up it runs fine for a few (hundred) miles then the crank seals fail. The tell tale for this is it's difficult to start (the failing seal means primary compression at low turnover speeds is poor).
Think about it, there can be no such thing as a mint 20 year old bike with 3000 miles on the clock that's been used regularly and regular use is what keeps rubber seals alive. _________________ Please do not PM me technical questions, if you can't find it on the Forum start a thread
I had exactly that problem on my mint MC21SP, which I bought with 3600 miles on the clock, you can read about it here
Failed crank seal is not always a problem, but as Fontyyy said, many of these bikes do stand for a long time.
Anyway, splitting the crankcase is nowhere near as onerous as it seems, once you have done it a few times _________________ Rich
