I think its just easier though i've never done it on a 250 so im just going by what i've read. Its just a case of twiddling an adjustable cable and lining a pointer up with a dot for each cylinder. Keep plugging in and unplugging the TPS to get the servo to go through its range of movement to make sure you're on the right track.
Be very careful to not over tighten the cables - your servo will make an audible whine if it's struggling and you must immediately kill the ignition and slacken things off if this happens. _________________ After years of moaning about immigrants now i am one...

Well I didn't know that, every day is a school day _________________ Please do not PM me technical questions, if you can't find it on the Forum start a thread
From what I have read on adjusting the power valve on a 250, the TPS should be disconnected, the ignition turned on to cycle it to the open position (not hi) and the cables adjusted to the mark on the adjuster. However, the 150 barrels have HI written on them at this mark on the barrel. This brings me to question whether merely disconnecting the TPS and cycling to the open position is far enough to adjust the rc valve to the etched HI position.
Well all i do when i re-connect all the cables after a rebuild or whatever is flick the killswitch to 'on' with the TPS unplugged - see what the pointer thing on the RC valve says then immediately flick the killswitch off again and adjust the cables abit. Then I plug the TPS in and flick the killswitch on again, let the valve move then flick it off again. Unplug the TPS, flick the switch on, see where it stops, adjust - and so on until i've got the pointer lining up with the punch mark every time with 'happy' tension in the cables. I found if they're too slack they don't line up the same every time the servo moves but of course if you go too tight then the servo motor makes its 'complaining' noise at you. Which, if you left it like that because you had the radio on whilst you were working and hadn't noticed the whine/buzz (not sure how best to describe the noise tbh), you'd end up with a nuked PGM! _________________ After years of moaning about immigrants now i am one...
Set them the same way as the hrc method , check your servo motor to see if anyone has made a reference mark on it . It will be where the servo turns to when the bike revs 10 or 11 , can't remember . Turn the servo to this mark , remove exhaust pipes and adjust pullys , look up the port to see if they are flush . !eware of the servo buzz ! Now you can mark the pulleys and back plate for future ref .
I disconnected the TPS and adjusted it to the mark on the pulley. Next I looked in the barrels to see how far open the power valve was. It was recessed, probably about 0.2-0.3mm. Now, as I am aware, it should not be open fully until the bike is revved up to about 10,000rpm, right?
I noticed when running, it actually goes open further than where I adjusted it to with the TPS disconnected. This can't be good, as when I looked in the exhaust port, it seems that opening it further than the mark punched on the barrel actually closes the port (the flapper tips closed at the end furtherest from the piston, obscuring airflow).
Does anybody follow what I saying?
I suppose what I'll do is adjust it to be fully open at the punch mark when the bike is at 10,000rpm... might find some extra ponies! _________________ MC21 Honda NSR250. TYGA 300 conversion.
I reread the tuning section , tank off , rev to 2500 rpm , mark servo motor where pointer points , kill engine , turn pointer to your mark on servo ,pipes off , adjust pulleys untill valves are 0.2 recessed . Jobs rite mate ! 1st gear wheelies gaurenteed !
I had a go at it today, took a bit to get it consistent. I had to start it a few times and kill the engine (the servo stayed at fully open if I killed the ignition at 2000rpm) and readjust. Eventually, after adjusting it many times, starting and checking it, it was right. It must have been way out to begin with! Hope to see those extra ponies
1st gear wheelies? I am hoping for 2nd! Already could do first gear...
