more power valve faults

Sat Jun 25, 2011 6:39 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

so i take m mc21 out today and it just seemed out o tune then when i get to 10000 rpm it flat lined straight away i thought dam power valves i only just adjusted them last week so thought i may have forgot to tighten the lock nuts but when i check them its all good so i then check the alignment marks and find the servo is not moving at all at any condition so i switch her off and move the servo by hand then start her up and the servo returns and starts working normal again all adjustment is still correct so i thrash it for most of the morning and it runs fine .
then after a quick feed and piss stop of about half hour i fire her up and as soon as i hit band in first i can tell the power valves are not working again.
has anyone seen this before or got any ideas why it would cut out intermitantly like that
cheers for the help

Pgm is most probably on her way out. Have you checked your battery and charging system ?

Measure your reg/ rec and check for a loose connection between your servo mechanism and the wiring loom.

Have you left enough free-play in the powervalve cables?
It may just be they're adjusted too tightly and binding up.
I regularly lubricate the cables too. One of the cable oilers that you use an aerosol can with, works really well.

so after going over the cables twice i went to the electrics found the voltage to the servo would go from 12v to 6v every now and then and i could make it worse buy shaking the bike wiring so must have a short some were right?
so i check all the wiring no faults then i noticed it was doing the same thing with volt meter direct to battery removed battery and found it must have a short in one cell or something maybe one of the posts is corroded were it comes through the top case not sure but first time i seen one do this.
also when id pull up at lights with a blinker on it would cut out sometimes "thats fixed now to"
cheers for all the idea's

Im having the same problem right now too. I fired it up on Saturday after being garaged for about 5 mths. Seems the 'other dramas' that forced me to garage it have mysteriously gone, but the flat lining at 10k remained. It rides perfect up to 10k then has nothing. I need to go over the whole bike and check everything. If i find anything obvious, I'll give you a a shout.
